“Gemini!” I banged on the door, my heart thudding harder than my fist.
No response.
“Please… open the door!” I called again, knocking more urgently. I didn’t stop—not this time.
Finally, after what felt like forever, the door creaked open.
Gemini stood there, gripping the edge of the door as if it were the only thing keeping him upright. His face was pale, sweat dripping from his temple, and his legs buckled the moment our eyes met.
“Gem!” I rushed forward, catching him just before he collapsed. His body burned against mine—scorching hot. I cupped his cheek, and my skin nearly sizzled from the heat.
He had a fever. But no—this wasn’t normal. This was something else. Something wrong.
I locked the door and carefully helped him onto his bed, tucking the blanket over his weak frame. He looked exhausted, barely able to keep his eyes open.
“Gem, are you okay?” I whispered, sitting beside him, brushing damp strands of hair away from his forehead.
“Fourth… your life… is in danger…” he murmured, his voice faint and broken, his eyes fluttering shut again.
I held his hand tightly, even though the heat was nearly unbearable—it felt like holding a hot pan fresh from the stove. My skin stung, but I didn’t let go.
I had to stay.
“I know this is from the exorcism. Just hang in there, okay?” I said softly.
There was silence for a moment, then I asked, “Gemini… do you know how many spirits are inside your body?”
His eyelids twitched, and slowly, he opened his eyes. “Spirits?” he repeated, his voice faint.
“Yes. I want to know about your past”
He stared at the ceiling for a few seconds before answering, “I don’t have any spirits inside me.”
“Yes, you do!” I insisted, frowning. “During the exorcism, when they grabbed Father’s throat—you tried to stop them. I saw it, Gemini.”
He turned his head toward me slowly. “Yes… I tried to stop them, because I didn’t want them to hurt you. But they’re not spirits, Fourth.”
A small smile curled at the corner of his lips. “They’re my friends. They’ve been with me since I was 10.”
My breath caught in my throat.
He knew.
He wasn’t just aware of them… he accepted them.
“That Father… he never should’ve done that experiment,” Gemini said, eyes meeting mine with startling clarity.
“What are you talking about?” I asked, letting go of his hand. My voice shook a little.
He turned his head away, visibly annoyed. “Yes, they’re my friends. And what is this spirits crap, huh? You sound just like the others.”
I stared at him, stunned.
He sighed and rolled his eyes. “And you—” he said sharply, narrowing his gaze, “You shouldn’t have taken me to that church. Why did you do that? Why?”
I pulled out my phone, quickly navigating to the video I had taken. “Look—look at what happened. Look at how you were in that moment!”
I held the screen in front of him. He watched himself, possessed, thrashing, speaking in voices that weren’t his own.
