(Long chapter)
Dunk stepped forward and knocked on the old wooden door. He knocked again, firmer this time. The door creaked open, revealing a man with tanned skin, sleepy eyes, and a half-torn dress hanging loosely on his shoulders.
“Is this Grandfather Chan Phat Rakan’s house?” Dunk asked, his tone polite yet steady, his posture showing quiet determination.
The man didn’t reply. Instead, he simply stepped aside, motioning for us to enter.
I glanced at Satang, who gave me a small nod. We stepped inside.
I froze.
The sight before me was beyond words—horrifying, almost surreal. Some chicken’s severed head lay on the floor, its dried blood staining the wood. Nearby, a bowl filled with something red—blood, or something worse—sat ominously.
“Ew,” I muttered under my breath, my stomach twisting.
The room felt suffocating, the air thick with an unpleasant metallic scent.
“Wait here for a moment,” the man said before disappearing into another room.
“My OCD is going to explode bro” Satang whispered, scrunching his nose in disgust.
“Uf don’t worry. Grandfather is a good man,” Dunk said, crossing his arms as he scanned the eerie surroundings.
I clung to Satang’s arm, my grip tight.
“Fourth it hurts idiot” Satang muttered, pinching my shoulder. “Bro… there’s a spider web. Gang!” I whined, making a face close to tears.
I bit my thumbnail nervously, darting glances around the unsettling room, praying the man would return soon.
Finally, the door creaked, and the man stepped out.
“He approved,” he said in a cold voice.
We followed him into another room.
Master Chan Phat Rakan was seated on the floor in a meditative position. In front of him lay a circle—made of flour, perhaps—meticulously drawn.
He lifted his gaze.
“Sawadee khrub,” I said respectfully, bowing deeply. Dunk and Satang followed my lead.
“Sit,” Grandfather ordered.
This room was different. It was spotless, almost unnervingly clean. I settled down between Dunk and Satang.
“Start,” he said, closing his eyes.
Dunk and Satang looked at me.
“Master,” I began hesitantly, “I have a friend named Gemini. He… he carries powerful spirit I mean entities whatever... inside him. At least, that’s what the Father at my church told me. But he doesn’t seem possessed—he talks and acts like a normal person. Only… he barely speaks unless it’s necessary.”
The old man nodded slightly, still silent.
“Sometimes those spirits wake up,” I continued. “Gemini believes they’re his friends. He says they’ve been with him since he was a child. But, Master, I want to help him. I want to know his past—why these spirits are with him, why they chose him.”
Grandfather listened carefully, his eyes still closed.
“I understand,” he said at last. “Do you have anything that belongs to him?”
I quickly handed him a shirt.
“This is all I have,” I said.
He placed the shirt in the center of the circle.
