As I arrived at Gemini's house, I stood at the front door and called out, "Gemini!" My voice echoed slightly in the quiet neighborhood, but there was no response.
I waited for a few moments, feeling the weight of the silence. Finally, the door creaked open, and a woman appeared. She looked to be in her late thirties, with a sharp expression that immediately set me on edge.
"What?" she snapped, her tone as cold as the winter breeze.
Caught off guard by her rudeness, I blinked and forced a polite smile. "Sawadee Khrub. Actually, I'm here to talk to Gemini," I said, rubbing the back of my neck awkwardly.
Her eyes narrowed slightly as if I were wasting her time. "I don't know where he lives," she replied curtly, her hand already moving to shut the door.
"Wait, what? You're his mom, and you don't know where he is?" I blurted out, confusion lacing my words.
The woman froze for a second, then sighed dramatically, placing one hand on her hip. "I'm not his mom," she said flatly. "That day, when his friends came over, he didn't want to make things awkward, so he told you that. I'm his aunt."
Her revelation left me stunned. "So... where's his mom?" I asked cautiously.
Her expression hardened, and there was a flicker of discomfort in her eyes. "Look," she began, her tone clipped. "His mom and dad died in a car accident when he was seven. Or maybe eight. I don't really remember, okay? But he doesn't live with us anymore. And don't come disturbing me again," she said sharply, slamming the door in my face before I could say another word.
I stood there, stunned by what I had just learned. Gemini... orphaned at such a young age? My chest tightened as I thought about the pain he must have endured.
It explained so much-his occasional moodiness, the way he would sometimes be cold and distant, and yet, at other times, talk to me and the group like everything was fine. He'd been carrying this pain with him all along.
For a moment, I just stood there, letting the revelation sink in. My fingers absently ran through my hair as I tried to make sense of it all. How much he had been suffering? And how little had I noticed? I pulled out my phone and dialed his number.
The phone rang and rang, but he didn't pick up. With a sigh, I slid my phone back into my pocket and sat down on the edge of the footpath. My mind was racing with thoughts and emotions.
What the fuck. Did I love him? Or was it just a deep sense of care and admiration? I rested my chin in my palm, my elbow propped on my knee as I stared at the ground, lost in thought.
"Why don't we ever have peace in our lives?" I muttered to myself. The weight of everything-his struggles, my own confusion-felt heavier than ever.
Suddenly, my phone buzzed, pulling me out of my reverie. I fumbled to grab it, and when I saw his name on the screen, my heart skipped a beat. I quickly answered.
"Hello, Gemini?!"
"Hello, Fourth. Did you call me?" His voice was groggy, laced with the unmistakable tone of someone who had just woken up. Sleepy voice. Oh my god.
I hesitated for a moment, distracted by the warmth of his sleepy voice. "Uh, yeah. Actually... where do you live right now?" I asked, trying to sound casual.
"Why?" he asked, his voice still heavy with sleep.
"I want to meet you," I said simply, hoping he wouldn't press for more details.
There was a pause on the other end. "Okay, I'll come to-"
"No," I interrupted quickly. "I need to come to you."
Another brief pause, then a soft sigh. "Okay," he said, his voice softer now. He didn't say anything else and simply hung up.
I stared at the screen for a moment, waiting for the address he would send me.
......
I walked up to room number 187. The atmosphere was hostile, and the stairs were filthy. How the heck does he live here? Standing in front of his door, I knocked. It was already slightly open, so I pushed it and stepped inside.
In the other room, Gemini was lying on the bed, scrolling through his phone.
"Gemini," I called out as I closed the door behind me, my eyes fixed on him.
"Oh, Fourth," he replied, sitting up. He looked sick.
I rushed to him and hugged him tightly. "Gem" I whispered. His body felt unnaturally warm.
Quickly, I checked his forehead and hands. "You have a fever?" I asked, concern lacing my voice.
"Uh, yes," he admitted, barely able to keep his eyes open.
"Did you take any medicine?" I asked, guiding him to sit back on the bed.
"Yes," he murmured weakly, before looking up at me. "But... did you come here to see me?"
I caressed his cheek gently. "There are many reasons I came," I said softly. "But when did this fever start?"
Gemini sighed. "I don't know. I was feeling dizzy earlier, and the fever started two or three hours ago.. I don't know..It came on suddenly."
(A/N: Fourth touched Gemini's body and moved it a little in the spirit world and the fever was like SAWADEE KHRUB BRO LEMME COME to u<3)
I frowned. Something didn't feel right.
"Gemini, can I ask you something?" I said, offering him a small smile.
"Yeah, sure," he replied. "Who is Prim?" I asked. The question clearly unsettled him. His face froze. "Uh...?" he stammered, struggling to find words.
"Mhm?" I tilted my head to the side, waiting. "What?" he asked, pretending not to understand.
"Who is Prim?" I repeated, my tone firm but calm. "How do you-wait, who told you about her?" he said abruptly, cutting himself off.
"Gemini, I asked you a question," I said with a faint smile, refusing to let him avoid it.
He pressed his lips together, clearly reluctant. "Uh.. actually um she was... my first love," he finally admitted.
So, Prim is really his ex. "Where is she now?" I asked. "In Chia... Why do you wan-" he started, but I interrupted him.
"Gemini, there's a lot you don't know. Please, just tell me where she is," I said, holding his hand.
He furrowed his brows, his voice trembling. "She's in Chiang Mai," he said hesitantly.
"What's she doing there?" I pressed. "She's... in a coma," he replied, avoiding my gaze as he pulled his hand away from mine.
It all made sense now. Her body in the real world is in a coma, so she can walk and talk in the spirit world. So, In the spirit world, everything happens in reverse.
