FOURTH
I yawned, covering my mouth as my eyes fluttered open. A dull ache pulsed in my head, and I groaned. "I'm at home?" I murmured, confused. The familiar surroundings came into focus, and it all started to make sense. "Ohhh..." I muttered to myself as I pieced things together.
Dunk, or maybe someone else, must have brought me back here. Of course-because I'd had too much to drink. Shia. What if my mom scolds me?
I usually drink, sure, but not that much. But last night, I'd definitely gone overboard. With a sigh, I got out of bed and made my way to the bathroom to freshen up, still trying to shake off the fog in my head. Glancing at my phone, I saw it was already 11:08 AM.
As I walked downstairs, I could hear the clattering of plates. Mom was setting up breakfast, and my stomach churned-whether from nerves or the hangover, I wasn't sure.
"Mom," I whispered tentatively, approaching her.
She turned around, eyebrow furrowed in a mix of concern and irritation. "Oh, you're finally awake?" she said, hands on her hips. "Last night, your two friends brought you home. How much did you drink? And who were you with, huh?"
I bit my lip, glancing down at the floor. "And," she continued, "did you kiss someone last night? What were you up to?"
My heart nearly stopped, and my eyes widened as if they were about to pop out of my head. "WHAT?!" I blurted, clamping my hands over my mouth in shock. "No! Mom, NEVER!" I nearly screamed, feeling a panic rise within me. What had I done?
"Oh, really?" she said, unimpressed, as she crossed her arms. "Because last night you were mumbling something about wanting to kiss someone more. So tell me, did you kiss someone or not?"
Her words hit me like a truck. My eyes widened again, this time so much it felt like they might fall out. "I was-I was just watching a movie with them!" I stammered, trying to think on my feet, but Mom wasn't buying it. She shot me a suspicious side-eye that sent shivers down my spine.
Without warning, she picked up a spoon and gave me a light tap on the head. "You better not be lying to me. Now tell me, who's this secret lover of yours?"
"Lover?!" I repeated, completely thrown off. My mind was still swimming in fragments of hazy memories from last night. I couldn't even remember what happened after we started playing those stupid drinking games.
Mom kept staring at me, her eyebrows arched, clearly waiting for an explanation. "Stop looking at me like that!" I pouted, desperate to change the subject.
She didn't let it go. "So, who is your lover?" she pressed again, waving the spoon in front of me.
"Maaaa, forget it!! It was nothing!" I whined, throwing my hands up and collapsing into a chair. She didn't say anything more, but as I sat down, she gave me another playful tap on the shoulder before going back to setting the table.
After eating, I made my way back to my room, shutting the door behind me as I dropped into my study chair. Both hands flew to my head as I sat there, staring blankly at the desk. Who had I kissed? Did I kiss someone at all? I tried to piece the night together, but it was all so blurry.
"Okay," I muttered to myself, trying to focus. "I was drunk, then went to the washroom... And then..." I strained to recall. "Wait... who was there?"
Gemini's face flashed in my memory. "Okay, so Gemini was with me." I nodded to myself, trying to stay calm. Then the memory hit me like a ton of bricks.
"WAIT-WHAT?!" I screamed, my voice echoing through the room. My hand shot up to cover my mouth again as panic washed over me.
No, no, no. This can't be right. I jumped out of the chair, pacing back and forth as if I could walk off the sudden flood of realization.
"WAIT, NOOO!" I yelled again, fisting my hand and banging it against the desk in frustration. My heart raced as the pieces clicked into place. I had kissed Gemini. He had taken me to a room to help me out, and I-I said something stupid. Oh god, he had been about to leave, but I made him stay. Then... I kissed him.
"YAAA SHIAA!" I groaned loudly, slumping against the wall. "No, no, no! How am I ever going to show my face in front of him again?!"
I stumbled over to the balcony, pacing in circles. My heart wouldn't stop racing, and my mind replayed every awkward moment I could remember. How could I have been so reckless?
GEMINI
As I lay in my bed, staring at the ceiling, the dim light of the room cast faint shadows across the walls. My mind drifted, heavy with thoughts, when I heard her voice again.
"You have to know your place, Gemini. You're killing someone again," Nina's voice was low, almost gravelly, as she sat in the chair across from me. I glanced at her briefly.
Her face was not like normal person. It was marred, a jagged scar running from the corner of her right ear down to her left chin, slashing through her nose.
It looked as if someone had tried to erase her but failed halfway through. Despite her appearance, I remained silent. Sometimes they came to me, and I never had the strength to argue.
A single tear escaped from my left eye, falling slowly, like a crystal slipping free from a chandelier. "I never wanted this," I whispered, my voice hollow, almost dead. "But it feels like there's some sort of magnet... pulling me toward him, making things happen." My voice broke as I spoke, revealing the storm brewing inside me.
Nina's black eye's gaze was unwavering, her arms crossed tightly over her chest as she leaned back in the chair. "Think about Prim," she said, her eyes closed, as if shutting me out. "Think about her again."
My breath caught in my throat at the mention of her name, my heart aching. "Can't I even say I miss her?" I asked, my voice trembling now, as more tears began to fall. "Can't I just say that without feeling like I'm betraying her?"
Nina's eyes flickered open, cold and indifferent. "Do you want her to die?" Her voice was sharp, biting. "She's been in a coma for years."
I bit my lip, unable to find the words to respond. My chest felt tight, suffocated by guilt.
"Can't I just make someone feel love?" I whispered, my voice barely audible. "Or is it too much to ask for someone to make me feel loved? Just once..." My words hung in the air, fragile and desperate.
Nina's response came quickly, her voice as cold as ice. "No."
Silence swallowed us both, but it was only momentary. "Fourth will have to pay for this," Nina added darkly, her voice softening, as if speaking more to herself than to me.
I flinched at the mention of his name. "What are you going to do?" I whispered, barely daring to ask.
Nina didn't answer. Instead, I felt her presence grow heavier, her intentions darker. My heart raced as I realized she wasn't alone. I turned my head slightly, and there she was-Ana, standing near the bed. She paced slowly, like a predator circling its prey.
Her steps echoed in the silence before she spoke, her voice cold, almost mocking. "He'll be depressed soon... more than you can imagine."
I clenched my fists, feeling powerless under their weight. I didn't want this. I didn't want any of this.
"You know," Ana said as she circled my bed, her voice soft but filled with an unsettling edge, "I told you not to fall in love. Or to make anyone else fall in love with you."
Her words twisted in my chest like a knife. There was no escaping it-this curse, this unbearable cycle of pain. And the worst part was, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't stop myself. I couldn't stop falling, and I couldn't stop dragging others down with me.
