The waiter is quick to take our orders, practically foaming at the mouth as the Ashfords speak to him.

Bless.

Once he disappears, I take a sip of my water, feeling the cold liquid soothe my aching throat.

Court is hard work.

"So, did you guys take the whole day off to just hear me argue all day?" I ask, smirking slightly.

"We wanted to see our solicitor in action," Elijah smirks back at me, "See her in action, so to speak."

Zach winks at me, providing a double entendre to Elijah's words.

I fight down a blush, clearing my throat before turning to Callum.

He's still staring at me with an inscrutable look that could either be intrigue or contempt.

I open my mouth to ask him why he's so silent but I am interrupted by the shrill sound of my phone ringing. Pulling it out of my bag, I can't help but smile when I see the caller ID.

"Cooke," I answer it, pressing it to my ear as I keep my eyes on the Ashfords.

"Carlie," he sighs through the phone, defeated, "We'll settle."

My grin widens.

"Well, you'd be stupid not to, really," I chide back, success rippling through my body.

"Is the offer still on the table?" Cooke asks with a strained voice and I can tell he's with his client.

"Nope," I play with my napkin on the table as I talk, "You had your chance to take the offer right up until we stepped into the court room. Now, we have new terms, and if you want to avoid the lengthy, probably highly publicised future court cases stemming from this, I'd advise you to advise your client to accept."

I'd already talked Ciara through the options if they chose to settle mid-case.

It's not uncommon in civil cases for a settlement to be considered despite the trial starting. I'd taken her instructions regarding this situation, feeling confident I could represent her through this.

"What do you want, then?" Cooke sighs, only refilling my already over-filled plate of delight.

"Well, as well as a better severance package, we request that my client is given the year's maternity pay laid out in her contract, had she had your client's baby. We also want double the amount of money we asked for before you decided to drag this to trial, and cover of private counselling for a year. If these terms are not accepted as is, we will happily meet Judge Powell and relay the rest of our arguments this afternoon. You have until the end of the lunch break to decide," I hang up the phone, not being able to contain my grin.

"What. The. Fuck," Zach says, sitting taken aback in his seat.

"Damn, you take no prisoners, huh," Elijah mutters.
