Hearing the raised voices of my brothers down the hall, I roll my eyes and knock on Cal's door.

I hear Carlie's light footsteps along the wooden floor, before it is slowly pulled open to reveal her standing there in Cal's t-shirt and boxers.

The shirt completely drowns her, more of a dress than part of an outfit on her.

I smile and pull her into a hug, my smile widening when she wraps her small arms around me too.

Releasing her, I keep hold of her hand and walk over to the bed, pulling the covers back for her. She climbs in, shuffling into the middle of the mattress so I can get in after her.

As soon as I have repositioned the covers over us both, she curls into my body, pressing her chest and torso against my side whilst her leg wraps over mine. I pull her so her head is resting on my shoulder with my arms wrapped around her.

She lets out a heavy sigh and I feel her body relax simultaneously.

We lay in silence, her fingers drawing circles on my bare chest as we stay in this position.

My mind drifts to my other two brothers as I try to figure out what is going on in Elijah's office. I draw the conclusion that Cal may have gone to beat some sense into him, whether that's vocally or  physically.

Either way, Elijah needs the wakeup call.

I think both Cal and I expected Cal to be the one to go off the rails, so seeing Elijah's reaction has really shaken us.

Whatever Eli's problem is, he needs to sort his shit out and be there for our girl.

"Thank you," Carlie's whisper breaks me from my thoughts.

I look down at her to see her eyes closed, looking like a peaceful angel as she rests. Her breathing is slow and steady, but I can tell she is still fully awake.

"You don't need to thank me, kitten," I squeeze her softly with my arm, closing my own eyes.

Once I am certain she is asleep, I start to drift into my own unconscious, slightly stifled by the emergence of Cal into the room.

His breathing is heavy, and I can tell he is worked up, but I know neither of us want to discuss it with the sleeping angel between us.

He climbs into bed and I smirk, eyes still closed, as he carefully moves Carlie so she is positioned against him.

Ignoring his greediness for her, I fall asleep with a smile on my face.

Always the first in the penthouse to wake up, I silently climb out of bed and detour into my room to put on a pair of grey joggers before heading to the kitchen.

I start to make breakfast, putting my earphones in and blasting music, so as not to wake up the others.

If it was just my brothers here, I wouldn't be so courteous.
