My legs shake as I step off the elevator.
You can do this, Carlie.
Show no weakness.
My heels click against the marble flooring as I make my way to my office.
Hannah gives me a proud nod as I walk past her desk and I wink before closing my door behind me.
Pulling my laptop out, I settle at my desk and begin working on the thing I came here to do.
Hannah comes in a few minutes later with a cup of tea, placing it on my desk and leaving, all with a knowing smile on her face.
It takes me about a half an hour to finish writing it, before sending it to print. I down the rest of my tea before picking it up from the printer.
Hannah appears by my side with a pen and envelope.
Leaning on top of the printer, I sign the letter and put it in the envelope before strolling to his office, Hannah in tow.
Not giving him the courtesy of knocking, I open the door and gracefully walk to his desk, internally smiling whilst giving a professional face on the outside.
Placing it on my desk, I meet his watching eyes, the shock teetering in his irises.
"Good morning, Charles," I greet him executively, "Here is both Hannah and my resignation letters." I stay standing, tapping my heel in boredom as I speak to him.
"I think, after recent events, it would be wise for you to accept my proposition for our immediate departure from the firm. I think our professional relationship has..." I purse my lips, pretending to think for a second, "Broken down."
I turn on my heel, memorising his shocked face as I walk away.
Before I leave the office, I kick in the real stinger.
"Oh, and I'm taking my clients with me," I smile fakely at him before shutting the door behind me.
A deep exhale escapes me as soon as I am out of view, my heart beating rapidly at what I've just done.
Heading back to my office, I smile when I see Hannah has completely packed up my office, including my case files.
Luckily, due to my extra work in maintaining my relationship with clients, they won't have an issue with following me to my new venture.
Wherever that is...
"Celebratory drinks at the Sky Bar tonight?" she smirks at me, her arms laden with a box of mine and her stuff. I nod my head at her, before walking to speak to my team.
After a few teary goodbyes and even some promises to join me as soon as I'm set up in a new job, I grab the rest of my stuff and ride the elevator for the last time.
