ship: hitoshi shinso + eijiro kirishima.
The late afternoon sun dipped low in the sky, casting a warm, golden hue over the park where the Bakusquad had gathered. It was one of those rare days when they all had free time, and instead of causing mayhem in the city, they decided to chill at the park, a welcome change of pace. Bakugo, as always, was off in his own world, glaring at a group of pigeons like they had personally offended him. Kaminari and Mina were locked in a heated debate over the best type of ice cream, while Sero looked on with amusement.
Hitoshi Shinso leaned back against a tree, a slight smirk playing on his lips as he listened to Kaminari's impassioned arguments. He had been invited to join the group through Kaminari, who had become one of his closest friends over the last year. Despite initially feeling like an outsider, Shinso had grown comfortable with the chaotic energy of the Bakusquad. They were loud, a bit reckless, but they were also genuine, loyal friends—something Shinso hadn't experienced much of before.
But his attention wasn't on Kaminari's ice cream debate for long. It was drawn instead to the figure of Eijiro Kirishima, who had been quieter than usual, standing a little apart from the group. Kirishima was usually the life of the party, his bright smile and infectious energy lifting everyone's spirits. Today, though, something was off. Shinso could see the tension in his posture, the way his eyes kept darting around as if searching for something—or someone.
Before Shinso could ask what was wrong, he noticed Kirishima's gaze lock onto someone approaching from across the park. A figure Shinso recognized immediately: Yo Shindo. Shindo, a former student from a different hero school, was someone Shinso only knew in passing. But he knew enough to recognize the guy as Kirishima's ex-boyfriend—the one Kirishima had broken up with over a month ago.
Kirishima's expression tightened as Shindo came closer, and Shinso saw the way his friend's hands clenched into fists. Clearly, things were still raw, despite the time that had passed. Shindo hadn't taken the breakup well, and from what Shinso had gathered, he still called and texted Kirishima regularly, trying to rekindle whatever had been lost.
As Shindo approached, Shinso felt a surge of protectiveness for Kirishima, who had always been nothing but kind and supportive to everyone around him. Kirishima didn't deserve to be put on the spot like this, to have old wounds prodded at when he was just trying to enjoy a day with his friends.
Before Shinso could decide whether to intervene, Kirishima suddenly turned to him, eyes wide with urgency. "Kiss me."
Shinso blinked, caught completely off guard. "What—"
But before he could finish, Kirishima leaned in closer, his voice low and rushed. "Sorry," he whispered, and then, without another word, he closed the distance between them and kissed Shinso.
For a moment, Shinso's mind went blank. All he could register was the sensation of Kirishima's lips against his, soft but firm, a rush of heat spreading through his body at the unexpected contact. His heart skipped a beat, then started racing, confusion and something else—something warmer, deeper—swirling inside him.
He was too stunned to react, and by the time his brain caught up, Kirishima was already pulling away, his cheeks flushed. He cast a quick glance in Shindo's direction, and when Shinso followed his gaze, he saw the dark expression on Shindo's face as he stopped in his tracks, clearly caught off guard by the sight of Kirishima with someone else.
Shindo hesitated, then turned on his heel and walked away, his shoulders tense with barely concealed frustration.
Shinso exhaled a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding, his pulse still racing. "What...what was that?"
