Chapter 21

The next day
[Grayson and Miranda bought two caskets and had a private funeral for Pearl and Harper with only their kids and Annabelle. They buried the caskets on the ground and the headstones were placed. Annabelle got all of her things from the farmhouse, moved into Gilbert's home, and shared Jeremy's room. The next Monday during school everyone was helping get everything ready for the parade. When Alaric saw Elena walking in with Stefan, he asked to talk to both of them. When he was done talking, Stefan called Damon so that he could come to the school]
{In Alaric's Classroom}
[Damon arrived and started to make a stupid and annoying yet funny joke, but then he saw Alaric's face and stopped. He then saw all their faces]
Damon: What's all the furrowed brows?
Alaric: I saw Isobel last night
Damon: Isobel's in town?
[Alaric nodded, Damon asked Alaric if he questioned her about John, if they were working together, about the invention, if she knew about the tomb vampires, but his answers were no, he didn't ask, and that he didn't know]
Damon: Did words completely escape you?
Alaric: No, I was a little too distracted by my dead vampire wife to ask any questions
Damon: What'd she want?
Elena: She wants to see TJ and me, Damon
Stefan: Alaric is supposed to arrange a meeting, we don't know why or what she wants
Damon: You two don't have to see her if you don't want to
Elena: We don't really have a choice and TJ would agree with me
Alaric: She's threatening to go on a killing spree
Damon: Oh, I take it that's...not okay with you guys
Elena: I wanna do it, I want to meet her and I'm sure TJ would want that too. If we don't then TJ and I will regret it, I just know it. Could you go to her school and talk to her, please?
Damon: I got it, just give me the address
[Elena took a piece of paper, wrote the address gave it to Damon, and Damon took it and drove to Victoria's school. Once he was there, he requested to see her and a little compulsion helped him out. Once he was able to talk to her, Victoria shared the same thought with Elena, and Damon left Briarwood. Alaric arranged the meeting and after school, Elena and Tori went to The Grill]
{In The Grill}
(Isobel arrived)
Isobel: Hello Elena, Hello Victoria
Victoria: I go by Tori
Isobel: Well then, hello Tori, Elena, you look just like her, it's eerie
Elena: You've met Katherine?
Isobel: She found me after I turned, generic curiosity, I guess, she'd be fascinated by you
Victoria: Is that how you can walk in the day?
Isobel: Katherine helped me get it
Elena: Who's our father?
Isobel: Not important, he was a teenage waste of space
Victoria: A name would be nice
Isobel: It would, wouldn't it? You two ask a lot of questions
Elena: Why did you compel that man to kill himself after he told us to stop looking for you?
Isobel: Traumatic impact, I wish it would have been more effective
Victoria: Human life means that little to you? He could have had a family
Isobel: Human life means nothing to me, it's just part of what I am
Elena: No, it's not, we know other vampires, that's not true
Isobel: You mean your vampire boyfriend, Stefan Salvatore, and the other one, Damon Salvatore, what is he to you? Your boyfriend too?
Victoria: That's enough
(Isobel slightly laughs)
Isobel: Is he your boyfriend?
Victoria: He's our friend
Isobel: Let me ask you something, Elena, why didn't you go for Damon instead of Stefan? Or do you just enjoy the both of them like Katherine did?
(Elena gaped)
Victoria: I said enough
(Isobel slightly laughed again)
Isobel: Sorry
{With Damon, Alaric, and Stefan}
Damon: We should be in there
Alaric: No, Isobel made it very clear that we're not to step foot inside
Damon: I'm not going to kill her in a public restaurant
Stefan: Damon
Alaric: You're not gonna kill her, period
Damon: She ruined your life and you're still trying to protect her
Alaric: She's my wife
(Damon looked back at him)
Alaric: Was my wife, I looked for the woman I married but she wasn't there, whoever that is, is cold and detached
Stefan: Yeah, she's turned off her humanity
Alaric: Yeah, I don't get that, Stefan, you've got your humanity and you're a good guy
(He looked at Damon)
Alaric: Hell, you're a dick and you kill people, but I still see something human in you, but with Isobel, there was, there was nothing
Damon: You can turn it off, it's like a button you can press, I mean this idiot is different, he wants the whole experience, he wants to feel every episode of "How I Met Your Mother" so he shuts his feelings out
Stefan: Hilarious, Damon
Damon: The problem is that as a vampire your instinct is not to feel, Isobel chose the easier road, no guilt, no shame, and no regret. If you could turn it off, wouldn't you?
Alaric: You haven't
Damon: And even with my humanity on, I'm still more fun to be around than my little bro
Stefan: Ha Ha, keep them coming
{With Elena, Victoria, and Isobel}
Victoria: Why did you want to meet us? It can't be because you just wanna catch up
Isobel: Because I'm curious about both of you, but the real reason is I want what you guys' uncle wants
(Elena slightly laughed)
Elena: How do you know our uncle?
Isobel: I used to spend a lot of time here and John had a crush on me for years, he was the first one to tell me about vampires
Victoria: So what made you be one?
Isobel: It's a very long list of reasons, Victoria, and all of which, you, Elena, I'm sure you've thought about
(Elena shook her head)
Isobel: That was your first lie, it's inevitable, you're gonna get old and Stefan won't, forever doesn't last very long, when you're human
[Elena told her that they didn't have what they were looking for and tried to leave with Victoria but Isobel held onto both of their wrists and made them sit down again]
Isobel: I want the invention
Victoria: We don't have it
Isobel: I know, but Damon does, and you two are gonna get it for me
Elena: He's not gonna give it to us
Isobel: Then the blood will be on both of you guys' hands. It was nice meeting both of you
[She took her things and left. Alaric took both of the girls home and when both of the girls went into Victoria's room, they hugged and cried together]
<at night>
[Damon found Isobel's hideaway which was the most expensive bank-owned foreclosure. He started to play strip poker with Isobel's mind-controlled female dancer and then she got home. Isobel told him that she was just doing what she was asked and that they were on the same side]
Damon: Which side is that?
Isobel: Katherine's, she wants John Gilbert to have the device and I know that you know that she's not happy when she doesn't get what she wants
(Damon pulled away from her)
Damon: Why are you doing her dirty work?
Isobel: Don't kill the messenger, we both know that you can't control Katherine, she does what she wants
Damon: So do I
Isobel: Really? You do?
(She sped over to him)
Isobel: What should we do now?
[They French kissed and then they started making out but then Damon threw her on the floor and kneeled beside her while starting to choke her]
Damon: Now that I have your attention, listen up, you do not come into my town, threaten people I care about, going after Elena and Tori, bad move. You leave both of them alone or I will rip you to bits because I do believe in killing the messenger. You want to know why? Because it sends a message
(He pulled her neck up and then pushed it back down on the floor)
Isobel: Ah
Damon: If Katherine wants something from me then you tell that little fucking, treacherous, bitch to come and get it for herself
(He let her go and then Damon left)

The next day
[Bonnie went over to the Gilbert Home to talk to both Elena and Victoria. She apologized for not being able to be there for them and that if they needed her then she'd be there for them. They told her that they met their birth mother, they started crying, and Bonnie hugged both of them. Later on at school, Matt was helping with the float, Tyler tried to apologize in his own way but Matt didn't want to hear it and then walked away. In the chemistry room, Bonnie tells both Elena and Victoria that according to Emily, Jonathan Gilbert never actually succeeded in inventing anything and that Emily secretly spelled all of them with magic, which included the compass, the daylight rings, and the mystery device that they told her about. Bonnie asked them if they were sure that was what Isobel wanted, they confirmed to her that it was, and Bonnie revealed to them that it was a weapon for vampires. Later on, Isobel threatened the lives of everyone that Elena and Victoria loved. The girls' parents, Jenna, and Jeremy, and their family's close friends, Bonnie, Caroline, Tyler, Matt, Beckett, Andre, Jade, Caterina, and Robbie. She even told them that she would travel to track down their sister, Lola, and kill her and the rest of her new family. She had her compelled male gay stripper break Matt's arm by standing on the trailer that had a rusty axle. Tyler, Stefan, and the others helped him out and Caroline called an ambulance]
Elena: Why are you doing this?
Isobel: I'm showing both of you how easy it is to hurt the people that both of you care about
Victoria: And you're doing this just because of Jonathan Gilbert's invention?
Isobel: Hand it over and the fun will stop
Elena: We told you that Damon isn't going to give it to either of us
Isobel: And I think that you underestimate how much Damon cares for the pair of you
Victoria: He'll kill you before he gives it up
Isobel: Is that before or after I kill both of you guys' siblings?
(Elena and Victoria turned around and did not see Jeremy anymore, they yelled out for him, but he was nowhere to be found)
Isobel: That's one, hand over the invention or Lola is next
(She leaves)
[Caroline told Matt that the ambulance would get to the school in about 15 to 20 minutes. Tyler offered to take Matt but he refused and said Caroline would take him, but she told him that she didn't drive to the school, so Matt said he'd wait. However, Caroline insisted that he would not wait and told him that Tyler would take him, period. Tyler went to get his car and he took him to the hospital alongside Caroline]
{With Isobel}
[John went over because Isobel had called him and when he saw Jeremy, he tried to get her to let him go and told her that the old Isobel must still be inside of her. She pretended to agree to let Jeremy go but instead, she ordered her compelled servants to beat John up and they did]
{With Damon, Elena, Victoria, Stefan, and Bonnie}
[Elena and Victoria convinced Damon to give the device to her so that they could give it to Bonnie, so that she could despell it, and they could give it to Isobel and John. Bonnie pretended to despell it and the others fell for it]
{With Isobel}
[At night, she went to the town square with her two servants to get the device from Elena and Victoria. Before she left, she let John and Jeremy go]
{In the town square}
(Elena and Victoria feel a whoosh behind them and they turn around)
Isobel: Where's the device?
Elena: Where is our brother?
Isobel: This isn't a negotiation, where's the device?
Victoria: Where is our brother?
Isobel: Do you two honestly think I came alone?
(Isobel's compelled servants approach Elena and Victoria from the back)
Elena: Do you think we came alone too?
(Damon and Stefan approached Isobel from the back)
Isobel: Call home
Victoria: Huh?
Isobel: Call home and ask to speak to Jeremy
(Elena called home and he told her that he was home and that he was okay)
Elena: You were never gonna hurt him
Isobel: No, I was gonna kill him, don't look for any redeeming qualities in me, I don't have any
Elena: But you took a risk with Damon, how did you know that he was going to give it to me?
Isobel: Cause he's in love with you and he cares a lot about you, Tori
(She extended her hand, Elena sighed, and she gave her the device)
Elena & Victoria: Thank you
Isobel: For what?
Victoria: For being a monumental disappointment
Elena: Yeah, it keeps us from remembering who our real mother is
Isobel: Goodbye Elena, Goodbye Victoria, and by the way, Elena, as long as you have a Salvatore brother on each arm, you're doomed. Katherine was smart, she got out, but we all know you're not Katherine
Victoria: No, she's not, my sister isn't a fucking manipulative, lying, and slutty bitch who betrays the people who trust and care for her. The people who befriend her
Elena: Katherine may be smart but the only thing she did was use both Damon and Stefan and drive a wedge between them
[Isobel sped away and took her compelled servants with her. Elena and Victoria started tearing up and Stefan went over to hug them but instead, the girls hugged each other, said goodbye to both Damon and Stefan, and they walked home together. At home, Jeremy tried to call Annabelle again because he hadn't seen her all day but nothing. When Elena and Victoria got home, Elena went to talk to Jeremy, he confronted her about reading her journal and about her having Damon erase what happened with Vicky that night. Elena tried to explain to Jeremy that she just wanted to take away his pain but Jeremy refused to hear her anymore and kicked her out of his room and closed the connecting bathroom door]
{With Alaric}

(He went to his classroom, got his things, and left the school for the night)
{With Stefan and Damon in The Salvatore Boarding House}
(Damon saw Stefan arriving, he offered him a drink, but Stefan didn't say anything)
Damon: Say it, whatever it is, purge, get it out
Stefan: It's about what Isobel said
Damon: What about it?
Stefan: I know that you and Elena have bonded, I know she cares about you, and I know you care about her
Damon: This is going in an interesting direction
(Stefan chuckled)
Stefan: I'm just worried about Elena being hurt, she considers you a friend
Damon: Same here, Elena'a very good friend, she might qualify as one of my few friends. Is that an issue?
Stefan: At the risk of sounding like a, uh, like a jealous boyfriend
Damon: There's no risk, you do
Stefan: History will not be repeating itself where Elena is concerned, do you get what I'm saying?
Damon: Sure
(He turned around but then Stefan sped to him and was across from the table where all the liquor was)
Stefan: I said, do you understand?
Damon: Uh, whatever you say, man, honestly, Elena and I are just friends, and as her friend, I wasn't looking forward to telling her or Tori the truth, so you can tell Elena and she can tell Tori
Stefan: What truth?
Damon: About John, because I know that you two don't keep secrets from each other
Stefan: What are you talking about?
Damon: Am I the only one around here that can put two and two together? Isobel, hello
(Stefan shrugged)
Damon: She dated John when she was fifteen, she got pregnant, and ended up in Papa Gilbert's office. What do you think John's role is in all of this? Think about it, I'll wait, no worries, take your time, do you understand? Do you have the correct answer? Hmm?
Stefan: You think that John is Elena's and Tori's father?
Damon: Ding, Ding, Ding! We've got a winner
(Stefan scoffed)
Stefan: What proof do you have?
Damon: I don't need any proof, it's obvious, and a simple DNA test for John, Elena, Tori, and Maury Povich will prove it. I know how well you deal with these bombshells, so sleep well
(He turned around but then turned back to Stefan)
Damon: By the way, when you do tell Elena, and when she tells Tori, and they need a friend to talk to about anything, I'm here for the both of them. I care a lot about Elena and Tori. Tori's like an annoying little sister, but she's an annoying little sister that I would have wanted to have in my life. Goodnight
(He went to bed)
{With John in a hotel room}
[He got a call from Isobel telling him that he had what he was looking for outside his hotel room. He went out to get it and closed the door behind him. Isobel told him that Katherine wanted those tomb vampires dead and Isobel wanted two more on the list. John concluded that it was Damon and Stefan and she told him that she didn't want that life for Elena or Victoria, that they were their daughters, and that they owed that to them. He agreed and told her that he wouldn't fail and to consider them gone. He hung up and went to sleep]
{With Bonnie and Caroline at The Grill}
[Bonnie told Caroline that she wouldn't tell her what she did but that she did something bad. She told Caroline that she pretended to do something that she didn't actually do, that couldn't do what Elena and Victoria asked of her because her grams wouldn't have done it because it wasn't right, and that when they find out, that both girls wouldn't forgive her]
