Chapter 22

The next day
[It was the day of The Founders Day Parade to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of the city of Mystic Falls. Miranda and Jenna helped the three girls get ready while Grayson helped his son. Stefan told Elena what Damon had told him about John and she was shocked but wanted for it not to be true. She had no choice but to tell Victoria, and she had the same reaction as Elena did. Jeremy's family tried to apologize to him again but he wouldn't listen to them. The parade had started and it began with Mystic Falls High School's marching band then it was the Willow Creek battle parade float, and after them, it was Miss Mystic Falls Court and their escorts. Damon showed up and smirked and waved at Elena, Stefan rolled his eyes, and Elena blushed, rolled her eyes, and waved at him. She giggled and this made Stefan annoyed, jealous, and nervous at their interaction. Damon went up to Bonnie, she tried to walk away, but Damon didn't let her. He thanked her, told her that he owed her one, wished her a happy Founders Day parade, and then walked away. Bonnie didn't know how to take it and just stood there shocked. After the Miss Mystic Falls float, it was a tractor carrying the football team and the cheerleaders on the road beside the tractor, and behind them was a float with a replica of the town square. Later on, John secretly met with the mayor in Grayson's office because he had an extra key and John explained how the device worked. Annabelle was able to escape from the parade and went to meet with the tomb vampires]
<in the afternoon>
{In The Grill}
(Elena walked in)
Damon: I like you better like this, the period look, it didn't suit you
Elena: Is that an insult?
Damon: Actually, Elena it is a compliment of the highest order
(Elena giggled)
Elena: Look, I know Stefan is worried about our friendship
Damon: Did he mention something to you too?
Elena: No, did he mention something to you?
Damon: Nothing worth repeating
Elena: So, I think you should stop with the flirty little comments and that eye thing that you do
Damon: What eye thing?
(He smiled)
Damon: Hmm
(Elena laughed)
Elena: Stop it, don't make me regret being your friend, okay?
[Damon nodded, and Elena noticed Victoria with her boyfriend, Steven Carson. Damon turned around and looked where she was looking]
Damon: Is that the long-distance boyfriend?
Elena: Yep, they've been dating for almost three months now, I thought he was nice but there's just something off about him, I can feel it, call it twintiation
Damon: No, I agree with you, if I weren't a vampire and I had romantic feelings for Tori, which I don't, then I wouldn't mind someone taking a picture of us together and posting it on the internet
Elena: Right, TJ is an amazing and talented girl, there's something he's hiding, but I don't know what it is
Damon: I don't think he's a vampire, that's one thing
Elena: If he hurts my sister, I swear I'm gonna teach him a lesson
Damon: Ooh, I love that fire, really sexy
(Elena giggled and lightly elbowed him)
Elena: Cut it out and make sure he doesn't do anything to hurt her
Damon: Don't worry, if he does, I'll bite his head clean off
Elena: No
Damon: Alright, fine
(Elena saw Jeremy and went over to him)
{With Jeremy and Elena}
Elena: I don't believe we can't fix this, we lied, and we were wrong, but you're our brother, Jer, you're our parents' son, and we all love you, and we have to fix it, mostly me, so please tell us, what can we do?
Jeremy: You, Tori, our parents, Jenna, you can all go to hell
(He left)
{Outside}
(Damon followed him and scolded him in his Damon way and Stefan stepped in)
Jeremy: You all shouldn't have made me forget
(Jeremy walked away)
Stefan: What are you doing?
Damon: He's being a punk
Stefan: Elena's and Tori's relationship with their brother is none of your business so stay out of it
Damon: Oh, there's only one do-gooder role available, sorry
Stefan: Get over yourself, we both know that you're not doing this for the right reasons
Damon: There you go with your jealousy act again. what are the right reasons Stefan, I mean, please, enlighten me
Stefan: It's only real when it comes from your desire to do the right thing for nothing in return. I know that's an entirely foreign concept for you and I understand how you wouldn't comprehend it
Damon: Well, you're wrong, so stop thinking that I want something in return from Elena or Tori because frankly, you're getting on my last nerve more an usual
(Damon walked away, Stefan rolled his eyes and went the other way)
{With Sheriff Forbes, John, and the Mayor}
[She found out what their plan was, that her deputies agreed to do it, and that Grayson had no idea what they were planning to do. She refused and John told the mayor to leave them alone so that he could talk to her. He left and instead of talking to Sheriff Forbes, John knocked her out cold, handcuffed her to her desk, and then walked out]
<at night>
[Annabelle went up to Damon and warned him about what was going to happen, Damon told her that Bonnie deactivated the device, and Anna told him that there was about to be lots of killing either way. Damon went to warn Alaric, Damon warned Elena and Stefan, and he told him to get Elena and Victoria out of there. Elena and Stefan went to find Victoria and Jeremy. Caroline tried to patch things up with Matt and Tylet but Matt just told her to give it a rest. Mayor Lockwood made Tyler go home in his car alongside Matt and Caroline. After Mayor Lockwood's speech, he nodded to one of the deputies, and he said the order on his radio. John told another deputy to get into position and the firework show began. Bonnie accidentally bumped into one of the tomb vampires, they apologized to each other, he left, and Bonnie followed him. Annabelle grabbed Jeremy and took him to the bathroom to warn him about what was about to happen. Damon entered Grayson's office, he asked if he realized what he had done, and John told him that he did. John put the remaining piece in the music box, which emitted a loud pitch incapacitating Damon. Damon covered his ears and fell to the floor in pain, Stefan also fell to the floor, and so did Annabelle. All the tomb vampires fell to the floor in pain and each deputy was injecting them with vervain. Tyler lost control of the car, and Matt told Caroline to take the wheel, she did, but they ended up crashing. Before a deputy could get to Stefan, Alaric intervened and told him that he had that one, and for him to get the other one. Alaric and Elena got Stefan up and went down the alley stairs behind the grill and Alaric told Elena what was going on]
Elena: They're rounding up the vampires, we've got to find Damon and Anna, we've just got to
Alaric: Let's go find your dad, I'm sure he doesn't know what your uncle did
[The deputies grabbed Annabelle away from Jeremy, he tried to fight them off but they held him back, they injected Annabelle with vervain, and the deputies took her away. The music box stopped playing, John took the key to the music box away, put it back in the invention, put it in his pocket, and went to the basement. Jeremy quickly ran to find his parents]
{In the basement of Grayson's Office}
[All the vampires were laid including the mayor, the deputies poured gasoline over them and started the fire, Annabelle grabbed onto John's leg, and John told them that he had it from there. The deputies poured gasoline on the steps as well and then left]
{With Jeremy}
(He bumped into his parents who bumped into Elena, Alaric, and Victoria)
Jeremy: Some deputies took Anna away
Elena: And Damon too, we need to find them
Victoria: Where could they have taken them?
Grayson Gilbert: The only place I can think of is the basement of my office
Miranda Gilbert: Let's go
(They all ran to Grayson's office and Bonnie followed them)
{Outside Grayson's office by the backdoor}
Bonnie: Stefan, you can't go in there, the fire will take you out
Stefan: He's my brother
Jeremy: That's my girlfriend in there
Victoria: Let's go, I'll help
(Bonnie held onto both Victoria and Elena)
Bonnie: I'm sorry I lied to both of you
(Bonnie started to chant, and Grayson, Stefan, and Jeremy went inside)
{In the basement of Grayson's office}
[John grabbed a stake and pointed it at Annabelle's chest. The stairs were starting to light on fire]
John Gilbert: Like mother, like daughter
Annabelle: Please, Please don't
[Damon gathered up all his strength and before John could stake Annabelle, he knocked John down, another vampire killed the mayor, and that's when Grayson, Stefan, and Jeremy ran in. Stefan helped Damon up, Jeremy got Annabelle up, and Grayson got his brother up. They all exited the basement, Grayson got a fire extinguisher and sprayed it in the basement, the fire was put out, everyone else in the basement was dead, and they all got out from the back door. They were all coughing and Elena and Victoria helped steady them all. One of the paramedics opened one of Tyler's eyelids and saw his glowing yellow iridescent eye making him jump back. Matt asked what was wrong and Tyler then opened his eyes, Caroline had passed out, and the paramedics tended to her]
{With Elena, Victoria, and the others}
Elena: Are you all okay?
John Gilbert: I'm good
Victoria: We weren't talking about you, get the hell away from us
[She pushed him away and Elena and Victoria hugged Annabelle, Damon, their dad, and Stefan. The others walked away from John, and Sheriff Forbes was able to unlock herself, and the story was that faulty wiring caused the fire. Bonnie warned Stefan that she knew who she was and that Damon had to change or she would take him down if any more innocent life was taken and would take Stefan down with her if he tried to stop her. Stefan told her that they should hope it wouldn't get to that. Damon took Jeremy home and apologized for taking away his memory and for what he did to Vicky. Damon left the Gilbert home and ran into Elena. He thanked her for seeing that he was worth saving, and kissed her cheek, but then they ended up kissing. In reality, it was Katherine, Jenna confused Katherine for Elena and she let her in. Damon left and Jenna closed the door, Katherine went into the kitchen while Jenna went up to her room, John also confused Katherine for Elena, and began telling her about Isobel. Katherine cut off John's fingers and stabbed him and he realized that it was Katherine. Elena then came in and complained to Stefan over the phone that she couldn't find her clothes and went into the kitchen. She gasped at the sight, removed the knife from John's abdomen, and began to call for an ambulance over the phone. John warned her telling her to look behind her, and Elena turned around worriedly but saw no one. She ran to Victoria's room but it was empty and then ran to Jeremy's room, but she saw him fast asleep with Annabelle in his arms. She raced down and that's when the paramedics arrived, she went to the hospital with John, and she called her dad and everyone else to meet her at the hospital]
{In the hospital}
[Damon arrived at the hospital as soon as he saw Sheriff Forbes's text and hugged her when she started to cry about Caroline and about the mistake that was made with Mayor Lockwood. Damon offered to give Caroline some blood just enough to heal her, Elena said that it was too risky, but Bonnie told him to do it. Damon asked Bonnie if, after that, they could call a truth between them, but Bonnie told him no, and told him that he would do it for Elena and Victoria. Damon secretly went into Caroline's hospital room, gave her some blood, and then left her hospital room. Damon and Elena started to talk about what happened, he told her what happened between them, but Elena was confused, and Damon told her that if she wanted to forget it, it was fine, but that he couldn't. That's when Jenna and the others arrived and the confusion kept going, and that's when Damon realized that it wasn't Elena, but Katherine. Damon told them that they all needed to go to their house and they all listened to him]
{In The Gilbert Home}
[Everyone helped clean up and when Stefan found out that Damon and Katherine kissed because Damon thought Katherine was Elena, he tried to go after him but then Damon sped behind Elena]
Damon: Don't be obvious, Stefan
(Stefan went to him again but Elena stood in between them)
Elena: Stefan, wait, he-he kissed Katherine, not me
(Elena looked at Damon)
Elena: I wouldn't do that
Victoria's POV
Yeah, right
End of Victoria's POV
[The others decided that they had to question John to see what Katherine wanted but Damon just said to ignore Katherine and she'd make a move. He then said that after they could stake her and rip her head off, or something else poetic. He left, so did Stefan, and the family tried to get some rest]
