[The other patient named Colin went to confront Caroline, she called Stefan, and they figured out that after she fed him his blood, he died. Alaric went out of town to find something mystical to give Josette an edge so she could win the merge. Josette came up with the idea of giving Sheriff Forbes a few human blood transactions to balance out the vampire magic in her. Sheriff Forbes was admitted to the hospital, Josette did the transactions but it didn't work, and Damon ended up killing Colin to make his suffering stop. Caroline ran out and Stefan and Tyler went after her, Olivia and Lukas went to talk to their father to tell him their decision, which didn't go down well, and Damon came up with the idea of using Malakai to suck out the magic from Sheriff Forbes. Malakai woke up and tried to use his magic to hurt Damon, but it didn't work, and Damon told him what he wanted. Malakai agreed on the condition that he wanted to merge, Damon agreed, and Malakai went with Damon to the hospital. Malakai absorbed the vampire magic from Sheriff Forbes, Josette discovered them, and Damon took her away to explain things. Enzo came up behind Malakai after he was done absorbing the vampire magic from Sheriff Forbes and he sedated him. Sheriff Forbes started to have a heart attack, Elena quickly called in for a nurse, and meanwhile started doing heart compressions on her. A nurse arrived and she quickly went to get Josette, she ran in with Damon, and Josette got to work. Joshua Parker forcibly started to merge Olivia and Lukas, they tried to pull away but they couldn't, and the ceremony had begun. The merge was complete and Olivia and Luke passed out falling on the ground. Caroline came into her mother's hospital room with Tyler and Stefan, she understood what was happening making her cry, and Tyler held her in his arms as Josette kept on trying to save Sheriff Forbes' life. Eventually, she woke up relieving everyone, everyone walked out to give Caroline and her mom some space, and Damon took Malakai's body away to keep him sedated. Lukas ended up waking up, cussed out his father, and Joshua told him that they needed to flee before Malakai went for them. Lukas refused and Joshua told him that he knew where to find them if he changed his mind. Damon ended up tearing Malakai's heart from his chest killing him instantly]

[Damon went to bury Malakai's body and Sheriff Forbes made Tyler and Stefan promise her that when she was gone they would be there for Caroline to make her smile. They obviously agreed and Caroline heard everything from the hallway]

[Alaric had returned, Josette and Olivia had a funeral for Olivia, and all of their friends were there with them. Josette talked with Alaric and he supported her decision to tie her tubes because she didn't want to have any children to continue the Gemini Coven. It was a new semester and Elena had new classes, American literature, Federal Government, Advanced Italian, British literature, Business and Professional Communication, Texas Government, and Creative Writing. The weeks passed and it was now February 5th, 2013, which was Bonnie's birthday. The gang decided to throw a party for her to celebrate her day, Caroline went out to dig up the original Ms.Cuddles, and Tyler went with her to keep her company. Stefan and Enzo got busy trying to fix the ascendant that Malakai broke because Damon had the idea of making Bonnie see the message that he left her. Josette sent Enzo over, he got Bonnie to see him and the message, and at night, Stefan went with Tyler and Caroline to Caroline's home to keep her company while she fixed Ms.Cuddles. Days passed, and it was now February 16th, Josette and Alaric had gotten engaged, Josette put her magic back into the knife, and Caroline, Tyler, and Stefan had gone to an old lodge that Sherif Forbes and Bill bought long ago to clean and furnish it, so Sheriff Forbes could retire and rest until the dreadful day came. Sheriff Forbes went to work to try to solve some final unsolved cases. Damon went into her office and told her that he would help her solve the unsolved cases. Later on, at night, Damon took her home, they talked, she cried, and then she passed out. Damon took her to the hospital, he called Caroline, and she, Stefan, and Tyler made their way to the hospital. Stefan showed Caroline how to give her mom a dream, she gave her mom a dream holding her hand making her smile, and then she passed on making Caroline cry her heart out. The Gilbert family was there alongside Annabelle, their dog, Damon, Stefan, Tyler, Matt, Alaric, and Josette. The hospital turned Sheriff Forbes' body to the morgue and Tyler took Caroline to the Salvatore boarding house. Everyone stayed over to be there for her and the following day, everyone followed Caroline's directions for the funeral. Damon got ready for the funeral, which reminded him of the day of his mother's funeral, he finally finished the eulogy speech, and everyone went to the church]
