The next day
[Damon was forced to tell Malakai about the worst thing he almost did, Elena forced Stefan to show her that he was happy with his fake new life, and Matt went to see Tripp to see if he could get anything out of him. Alaric paid another visit to his new friend, Doctor Josette Laughlin, who he had met a few days ago. Malakai finally explained everything to Damon and Bonnie, Bonnie got to work on the locator spell, and Malakai found the location to harness the eclipse so they could go back home. Bonnie discovered that Malakai had killed most of his family and refused to help him, he tried to hurt her but Damon pushed him back, and in the end, they had no choice but to make a deal with him because it turned out that he could steal magic from others. Tripp revealed the truth to Matt and saw that he had trapped Enzo in a cell. The next day, it was the homecoming at the cornfield and Stefan had returned because Enzo had actually turned Ivy and not killed her, and Stefan came back to ask Caroline for help. Bonnie and Damon had met Malakai in the forest, he explained things a little more to them, and then he went to the store while they began to dig underground. It was sunset and the homecoming party had commenced at the cornfields. Elena invited Josette to the party so she could set her up with Alaric, but Alaric still hadn't shown up, and Stefan went to Alaric's classroom for a chat. Alaric put him in his place and then stormed off to the party, Ivy drank from a random guy, and she tried to compel him, but it didn't end up working. Bonnie realized that Malakai didn't know the spell and she sent a pick axe to his chest knocking him out]
{In the cornfields}
[Josette and Alaric figured out that they were being set up, Tyler drove into the cornfields because the injured guy ran in front of his car to get him to help him, and there were injured people everywhere. Alaric and Annabelle started to heal people as fast as they could, Caroline figured out that Stefan was just gonna leave again after dumping Ivy onto Caroline, and she put him in his place too. Ivy called Caroline, Caroline told her to tell her where she was, and that she would pick her up]
{With Bonnie and Damon}
[She figured out the spell, they went underground, they bonded a bit more, and when it was almost time to go home, Malakai showed up, and shot Bonnie with an arrow. Damon went to her, helped her up, and tried to heal Bonnie, but Malakai attacked him]
{In the cornfields}
[Liam helped a girl to get more air and Olivia ended up killing the guy who ran out to Tyler's car, so Tyler's curse wouldn't reactivate]
{With Bonnie and Damon}
[Damon and Malakai started fighting because Damon was trying to protect Bonnie and himself, and Bonnie moved Malakai out of the way with the spell, motus. She then brought Damon to the light and tossed him the ascendant, Damon was able to yell out, "No!" before the ascendant fell on the ground, breaking and sending Damon back to Mystic Falls]
{In the cornfields}
Elena: That was some great work back there
Liam: Thanks but I was just trying to save that girl's life
Elena: I know
Liam: Look, I know we just met but I really like you and I was wondering if you maybe wanted to go on a date?
Elena: Look, you seem like a nice guy, but I'm not ready to start dating and I'll never be able to
Liam: How come?
Elena: Because I thought that my last boyfriend was alive, I had hope of him coming back to me, I was madly in love with him, I saw my entire future with him, but it turned out that he's probably dead
Liam: Oh, well, I'm sorry for your probable loss
Elena: Thanks, I guess
Liam: He probably wouldn't want you to be stuck on him all your life, he would probably want you to find a way to keep going and would want you to move on with your life
Elena: It doesn't matter because he's gone, he was the love of my life, and I can't picture myself with anyone else but him. I'd rather die of old age alone and miserable than be with anyone else. Goodnight

[They confessed their feelings for each other, Alaric tried to compel her to think that their blind date had been a disaster, but it didn't work, and Josette ended up kissing him, and then walked away]
