Chapter 54

The next day
[A hunter named Galen Vaughn kidnapped Damon, he told Damon that he had been killing vampires his whole life and that he had been spying on him and all his friends. He also told him that three days ago, the tattoo revealed itself to him, he shoved a hot poker in Damon's neck and then demanded Damon talk about what he knew. Elena called Victoria, Annabelle, and Caroline to tell them what was going on, and they told her that they would find the sword. Bonnie, Jeremy, Professor Shane, and the native that had taken Jeremy reached the cave. They went inside, and Professor Shane gave the rock to the native for his payment. The native told Bonnie and Jeremy that he would do a prayer for their souls, and then he left the cave. Caroline and the others found the sword, returned to the Gilbert home, and Simba started barking at Klaus again]
Klaus: Filthy mutt
Annabelle: Do not call my baby that
(She whistled at Simba)
Annabelle: Simba, heel, down boy
[Simba stopped barking and went with Annabelle. Klaus decided to help translate the sword because it was in Aramaic]
{On the island}
[Galen explained everything to Damon, Jeremy went down the opening to the lower level of the cave first, Bonnie went down next, and then Professor Shane went last. Klaus started telling Rebekah everything, but Caroline and Tyler hung up as soon as they could. Elena, Stefan, and Rebekah kept going and when Elena jumped down from the cliff, Rebekah told Stefan what Klaus had told her about the cure. Bonnie took the map from Jeremy's body, and he and Professor Shane helped her to stay in control. The cave had a cave-in as Bonnie was taking the map from Jeremy's body and Elena saw Rebekah break Stefan's neck. Rebekah went down and raced to the cave while Elena went back up to help Stefan. After drinking a blood bag, he told her what Rebekah told him, and they had a pity party. They went back down and went inside the cave, and Galen not only disarmed Rebekah but also trapped Damon and then went down to the lower level of the cave. Stefan tried to pull off the metal string from Damon's neck]
Damon: You're wasting your time, go get the cure, go
Elena: We're not gonna leave you
Stefan: No, we're not, you go down, we'll be right behind you, go
(She looked at Damon, she went across, and kissed him. He kissed back and she then nuzzled her nose into his cheek)
Damon: We'll be right behind you, I promise, I'll be fine
Elena: Okay
(She went down the pulley into the lower level of the cave)
{Inside the other cave}
[She came across Katherine, Katherine broke her neck, and then took her place. Stefan cut Damon's metal string across his neck and then went down. He questioned Shane, then he left him there, Damon removed the wooden pieces from himself, and then removed the pieces from Rebekah before they could blow up. Caroline begged for Klaus to have mercy on Tyler, he said he would, but then he said he wouldn't stop until he killed him. Caroline and Tyler had to break up and then Tyler fled. Galen stabbed Bonnie, and Jeremy and Galen started to fight, and Katherine as Elena saved him. Katherine as Elena fed Silas Jeremy's blood until Jeremy fell dead and then she took the cure and fled. Shane took Bonnie away, Stefan told Damon what had happened, and he told him to get Elena off of the island while he searched for Bonnie]

The next day
[Shane tried to cure Bonnie in the best way he could and then he told her what had happened to Jeremy. When Elena and Stefan arrived home, everyone saw Jeremy's body, Caroline was shocked, the others were just as shocked, and then Grayson, Miranda, Tori, and Annabelle broke down. However, Elena told them that he would come back with his ring. She went upstairs to be with him and Stefan explained things to them. Elena refused to accept that he was dead despite what Meredith, Stefan, and the others told him. Damon used Rebekah as a shield from Galen's arrows, Damon knocked him out and then tied him up to a rock to question him about what he knew. Eventually, he spilled everything, and Damon left him there to go find Bonnie. Bonnie refused to help Shane with another massacre but then she gave in so she could bring Jeremy back. Damon got a call from Stefan and he told him that Elena needed him because the sire bond would be the only thing that would keep her together. Bonnie found Damon, Rebekah took Galen, and she tied him inside the lower level of the cave. She left with Damon and Bonnie and the three of them got back to Mystic Falls at night. Bonnie explained everything to them and Caroline and everyone else thought her plan was crazy. Elena realized that Jeremy would not be coming back to life, she broke down, and Damon held her in his arms as she cried into his chest and held onto him for dear life. He told her to turn off her humanity, which not only shocked the others, but they did not like that idea. Elena shut off her emotions and then she went to her bedroom closing and locking the door behind her. Grayson and Miranda took Jeremy's body to the morgue and cleaned his bedroom. Elena sneaked out and fed on a random woman, but Stefan and Damon stopped her before she killed her, and then they took her back home]

[The Gilbert family had Jeremy's funeral and for a little over three months, Elena refused to talk or see anyone. Later on, Elena flashed Damon and Stefan, rejoined the cheerleading squad, fed on one of the girls from the opposing team, and during one of the competitions, she purposely dropped Caroline. Stefan vervains her and takes her back to his house. Later on, she mass texts the entire school and all her contacts for a huge party at the Salvatore Boarding House. Damon and Rebekah work together to find the vampire who was after Haley who also had a werewolf bite. Damon bit a random nurse for bait, then the vampire revealed himself, and Damon zoomed into him to stop him from feeding on the nurse. He noticed that he was one of his best friends named Will, and he sped them away to make Rebekah believe that they were fighting. Damon fed him Klaus' blood and then told him to meet him in New York. Will sped away and Damon went back to Rebekah telling her that he was dead. That night, Elena hurt Sheriff Forbes, but Caroline stopped her, in the forest, she almost killed Caroline, and Damon got Elena out of there. Eventually, Stefan figured out that perhaps Silas had followed them home, but Damon told him to hold the fort down because he was on his way to New York with Elena]

The next day: May 9th, 2011
[Caroline started to pick up around The Salvatore Boarding House sadly because Matt had given her a letter from Tyler saying that he loved her, but he wouldn't be back ever. Tyler had also left the deed of his house in Matt's name. Damon and Elena arrived in New York at noon, He picked up Stefan's call and told him his plan to get the cure for Elena. Elena got some red dye in her hair and then they went to an underground club. Rebekah revealed herself to them and it turned out that Elena had figured out Damon's plan. It also turned out that Silas was masquerading as Professor Shane and Stefan called Klaus to let him know what was happening. Damon went to talk to Will in his upstairs apartment where he was hiding and he gave Damon the latest addresses from Katherine. Damon heard Elena and told Will to hide, which he did. Damon then took Elena out of the room with the excuse that he was talking to Stefan over the phone. Eventually, Klaus, Caroline, and Stefan found Bonnie, Stefan tried to stop the witch, and he revealed Bonnie's plan to her. Before the witch could kill Bonnie, Caroline interviened and killed the witch leading to all twelve witches being killed because all the witches were linked. This made the expression triangle complete because now there had been three massacres, humans, hybrids, and witches. Rebekah offered Elena her help, but she refused, and Elena and Damon went up to the roof to drink and make out. Damon kept telling her that she would take the cure even if he had to tie her up and Rebekah ended up breaking Damon's neck. Elena agreed to work with Rebekah and they left. Stefan took Bonnie back to her house]

The next day
[Stefan filled in Bonnie because she had lost part of her memory, Damon called to fill in Victoria and Stefan, and Stefan told them to fill them in on what he knew. Three more days passed and Elena and Rebekah figured out what Katherine did to the town. Victoria was there with Damon and Stefan, and instead of going along with their plan, she told them to go along with her plan because that would work to turn on Elena's emotions. Katherine revealed herself to Elena and Rebekah stopped Katherine from killing Elena. Elena and Rebekah made Katherine give Elena most of her jewelry, shoes, and jacket, so she could meet up with Katherine's mysterious friend, Elena left, and a few seconds later, Damon, Victoria, and Stefan arrived. It turned out that Katherine was meeting with Elijah, Elijah kissed Elena, and a second later, Elijah figured out that it was Elena. Katherine was unraveled by Stefan and by herself a little bit]
Stefan: You do realize that if Elijah does kill Elena, you have no way to find the cure?
(Rebekah annoyingly looked at Katherine alongside everyone else)
Katherine: Fine, move, you need to follow me
Victoria: No, she can't be trusted, you two stay here, and we'll get Elena back
Rebekah: No, the cure-
(Victoria slammed her hands on the table and stood up)
Victoria: That's my sister out there, and no one is going to hurt her, I'll make sure of that, Stefan will stay with you, go get the cure, Damon and I got this, let's go, now
[Damon and Victoria left and Stefan, Rebekah, and Katherine left to get the cure. Stefan called Elijah to tell him what they had planned, Elijah told them that if anything happened to Katherine, he would descend upon Elena. Elijah took Elena way to another location and when Damon and Victoria arrived at the gazebo, they were gone. Katherine tricked Stefan and Rebekah, she escaped, and before Stefan could do anything, Rebekah took the supposed cure. Elijah figured out that Elena had turned off her emotions, Elena explained why, and Damon and Victoria kept looking everywhere for Elena and Elijah. Katherine arrived and broke Elena's neck surprising Elijah. Rebekah woke up and thought she was alive, Stefan threw a dagger at Rebekah in anger, but she caught it easily, and they realized that the cure was fake]
{With Elijah and Katherine}
(Elijah bent down to Elena's unconscious body)
Katherine: Oh, come on, she could use a nap. It must be exhausting trying to be me
Elijah: You killed Jeremy Gilbert
(Katherine turned around)
Katherine: Yes, Elijah, I killed Jeremy Gilbert, a bombshell I'm sure she just couldn't wait to drop on you. Ironic since she supposedly doesn't care about anything
Elijah: I care, do you honestly feel nothing for this girl?
(He stood up and turned around to look at her)
Elijah: She lost her grandparents on her adoptive mother's side, her aunt, she lost her biological parents, even if she didn't like them, her surrogate uncle, Alaric, and now she lost her younger brother
Katherine: Why are you looking at me like I enjoyed it? Jeremy was collateral damage, I was doing what I needed to do to survive
Elijah: Is that what I am to you? A means of survival?
Katherine: Don't let sweet little Elena get to you, she hates me. She wants you to turn against me and convince you that I can't be trusted
Elijah: I asked you a question
Katherine: No, of course you're not a means of survival, you looked out for me when I had no one you're giving me a second chance now when no one else will, I love you...Elijah. You don't believe me
Elijah: I want to, it's my disease, I just keep wanting to believe you, but how can I when at every turn you give me reason to doubt you? I don't know you, I don't know that I ever will
(Elijah turned away but Katherine ran to him and made him turn back to her)
Katherine: Wait, you gave me your word that you would talk to Klaus. I-I can't make a deal without you. Elena helped Jeremy kill your brother, Kol, you told me, and she also helped Matt Donovan kill your other brother, Finn, don't forget that
Elijah: I betrayed Elena and her family and they still forgave me and trusted me again. I have long forgiven them for killing Kol and Finn, and if they ever need anything from me, I'll rush to their aid, goodbye, Katherine
[He left and Katherine stormed away stepping over Elena's body. Elijah sent Elena's location to Damon, he texted it to Stefan, and Damon and Victoria arrived as quickly as possible. Elena woke up and hissed at the pain in her neck, she stood up and turned around to come face to face with Damon running up to her holding Victoria by the back of her neck looking scared]
Elena: Well, if it isn't my twin sister
Victoria: Elena
Damon: Enough is enough, you're acting like a little spoiled brat, you know that? You think we can't punish you? Maybe not, but I can punish her
Elena: Seriously? You think this-
Damon: Shut up, I'm done playing nice, turn your emotions back on right now, Elena, or so help me God, I will give you something to be sad about. I will kill her right here in front of you
(Stefan arrived, ran up to them, and stood beside Elena)
Stefan: Damon, don't
Damon: Don't Damon me, she doesn't love anyone, doesn't want to feel anything, and doesn't feel anything. Fine, prove it, and if I'm wrong, what difference does it make? One less wannabe singer and actress
Victoria: Elena
Elena: You're bluffing
[Damon broke Victoria's neck making her fall, dead, and making Elena gasp. She started tearing up seeing her sister and best friend dead and looked at Damon]
Damon: How about now? Feel anything now? You angry I just turned your sister into roadkill?
(Elena covered her mouth with her hand)
Damon: Or are you sad that the girl everyone loved, except for Jade, is a bag of bones? Remember when she was a little kid with a big heart and a cute smile with her whole life ahead of her
(Elena shook her head in denial and Damon knelt by Victoria's dead body)
Damon: I guess it was a good idea that she was wearing this
[He showed Elena Victoria's hand, which had the ring on her thumb, and she sighed in relief. She knelt by Victoria and held her hand]
Elena: Oh GOD, TJ, thank GOD
Damon: Feel that weight lifting off your chest? That's joy because your sister and best friend isn't dead, that's emotion, Elena, that's humanity
(Elena started to cry)
Damon: You're gonna be okay, c'mere
(He tried to hold her hand but she stood up)
Elena: No, no, I almost killed Caroline, I hurt Liz, I almost killed that other woman, and I almost killed that other girl, no!
(Stefan turned her around, Damon held her, but she pulled away, and then Stefan grabbed her)
Stefan: Hey, hey, look at me, I know this stage, okay? The emotions are overwhelming you, you just have to focus on one thing-
Elena: No, I can't, I can't, I can't
Stefan: Just find that one thing inside you that makes you strong, it's in there, just latch on to it. Channel everything you're feeling into one emotion, find the one thing inside you that makes you want to live, Elena, and let it in. Let it in
(Elena started letting it in and Damon stepped beside Stefan)
Stefan: That's it, that's it, just breathe it in, over and over again. That's good
Elena: Gahh!!
(She sighed)
Damon: You okay?
Elena: No, I'm not okay, but I'll get there, take us home
[Stefan pulled away and carried Victoria in his arms while Damon put his arm around Elena's shoulders. The three of them rushed away to the car that Elena and Rebekah had rented, Elena sat in the back with Victoria lying across her lap. Damon drove away to where his car was, Stefan carried Victoria, Elena got in Damon's car with Victoria, and Damon got in the driver's seat. Stefan returned the other car to the rented car agency and came back to the silent car after a little while. Katherine eventually gave the real cure to Elijah, he walked away, and Rebekah begged him to give her the cure. Just then, Klaus called her, she passed the phone to Elijah, and she turned away. Elijah talked to him and then got in the car with Rebekah. Caroline left Klaus' home after helping him clean in because all day she had been helping him, remove piece of the white oak steak that Silas had ticked into his back. However, it turned out that it was just an illusion, and Caroline told him that if he wanted to be friends, then he would let Tyler come home and swear to her that he wouldn't hurt him and would let him live his life with her. In context clues, Klaus told Caroline that he wasn't actively hunting Tyler down, she smiled and then got out of his house]
