Chapter 31

[The next day, after the girls' sleepover, Elena and Victoria went with their parents, Jeremy, and Annabelle to their lake house for a getaway, but they didn't realize that someone was spying and following them. Jenna and Alaric stayed behind because they got roped into helping Carol Lockwood at an event. Jenna found out that Damon and Andie were dating, Carol introduced Damon to Elijah, and they shook hands. Caroline tried to talk to Matt but he didn't want to talk to her because he thought that she and Tyler were going out. Tyler tried to tell Matt that nothing was going on but he didn't listen to him, grabbed him by his shirt, and told him not to lie before pushing him away. Caroline and Bonnie made a plan to get Luka to confess to Bonnie the extent of Elijah's plan. Bonnie put something in Luka's drink, she offered it to him, he took it, and they went to play pool together. Luka started feeling dizzy and Caroline and Tyler helped Bonnie take him to Caroline's house. Damon talked to Elijah alone, and he threatened him, so Elijah stabbed Damon on the side of his neck with a pencil. He gave him a pocket hankie, Damon took it, and Elijah told him to keep Elena safe. Bonnie lit some candles with her magic, Tyler brought the bowl of water that she asked for, and Bonnie got to work]
{In The Salvatore Boarding House}
[Werewolves broke in, killed Alaric, and attacked and trapped Damon. Jules asked him for the moonstone and Damon just laughed]
Damon: Oh, if only you knew the irony in this moment right now. Let me tell you how this is going to go down, you're going to torture me, I don't talk and someone loses a heart. Your boy, Mason, was close to losing his, so you should thank my surrogate annoying little sister, Tori, for that
Jules: It'll be you that loses his heart
(She nodded to her friend and he pulled on the ropes holding Damon's collar making him groan out in pain)
{In Caroline's House}
Caroline: How long is this going to take?
Bonnie: I don't know, he's fighting me
[Luka asked her to stop but she didn't, and Bonnie tried harder until she got him under her spell again. Bonnie asked him a series of questions and she got everything out of him]
{With The Gilbert Family}
[Jules' boyfriend attacked Stefan with wooden bullets, his friend put him in the shed, and before he killed him, Stefan overpowered him, and took out his heart. Jules' boyfriend tried to attack Elena when she was out of the house to look for Stefan, but Elena stabbed him in the stomach with a knife, and she ran back inside to tell the others. Grayson quickly moved them all upstairs to one of the bedrooms. When Jules' boyfriend got into the bedroom, Grayson quickly told everyone to leave the bedroom and they listened to him. They went down the stairs, Elena closed the door to trick him, and they all headed to Grayson's and Miranda's bedroom downstairs. Grayson grabbed a knife from a secret compartment full of weapons, left the bedroom with everyone else, and they all hid. When Jules' boyfriend went inside the bedroom, Grayson went up behind him and stabbed him in the shoulder. They all ran out of the house, Jules' boyfriend went after them, and Stefan took him by surprise and tore his heart from his chest killing him instantly. Stefan buries both of the werewolf bodies, and their hearts far from the house in the forest, and then they all go back inside the house]
{In The Salvatore Boarding House}
Jules: You know, the great thing about buckshot is it scatters through the body creating maximum damage

[Damon stood up, took out the knife from Alaric's abdomen, and got a call from Bonnie. She told him everything, Damon hung up, and Alaric woke up. Damon called Stefan to tell him everything and Stefan told Grayson and the others, which made Grayson, Miranda, Victoria, Annabelle, and Jeremy furious at Elijah. Damon and Alaric took all the dead werewolves and their hearts, and they buried them in the forest very far away from the boarding house. Alaric then went home and Damon got to cleaning his carpet]
{In The Lakehouse}
Elena: If it comes down between the people I love and me, I prefer to be the one who dies
Victoria: Don't say that! Don't you ever say that again!
Elena: I want to protect all of you, including you, Stefan, Damon, and you, Anna
Annabelle: You listen to me right now, you need to live, you need to survive
Stefan: Elena, Damon, Annabelle, and I have lived our lives. Yours has barely begun, you deserve a life surrounded by your family. The people who love you, you're not being a hero, you're being a martyr, and it's tragic
(He went to his guest room and everyone also went to their bedroom)
{With the others}
[Tyler left Caroline's house after saying his goodbyes and he put Luka in Mason's truck. Tyler agreed to leave with Mason to Florida away from Jules and they leave Tyler's mom a letter. Before leaving, Tyler stopped at The Grill]
{In The Grill}
Tyler: Matt
Matt: I'm not in the mood, man
Tyler: I need to say something
Matt: Fine, say it
Tyler: I've been going through a rough time, it's something that I really can't talk about, and Caroline and my uncle Mason have been helping me through it. They've been there for me more than anyone's ever been there in my entire life, especially Caroline, and I kinda fell for her. I don't know how anyone wouldn't because she's pretty incredible, but she loves you. She needs you and to be honest, she deserves someone like you, so you be good to her, okay?
Matt: Yeah, man, of course
Tyler: See ya around, dude
Matt: Yeah
[Mason put Luka in a stall in the men's bathroom and then Tyler got in Mason's truck. Mason reached him and he drove off]

[The next day, Elena was reading one of Jonathan Gilbert's diaries while Stefan was skipping rocks on the lake. Miranda called Jenna, and let her know what they had discovered, and together, Jenna, Alaric, and Damon made a plan to kill Elijah. Stefan went inside, and when he saw Elena reading one of the journals, they began to talk, and he told her the truth about how he used to be. Damon went to visit Katherine, and she tricked him into deciding to kill Elijah. At night, Damon prepared everything, John arrived to join them, and then Elijah arrived. Elijah was telling them about some witches from Salem that burned years ago in Mystic Falls, Damon asked him why he wanted to locate the spot where a bunch of witches were burned, and Elijah just told him that it was a healthy historian's curiosity. Elena was still reading, and two of the pages were stuck together. She opened them without ripping them, and she found information about the originals. She turned the pages to see how many pages of the originals Jonathan Gilbert had written, and she came across a page that had a drawing of a knife]
Elena: TJ
Victoria: What?
Elena: Look, I know you're mad at me but come check this out
Victoria: What is it?
Elena: Just come over here
Victoria: Fine
(She sat beside her and Elena read out loud)
Elena: "The wood from one tree and one tree alone, an ancient white oak would bring death to an original vampire. When the tree burned, all hope was thought lost"
Victoria: He was trying to figure out how to kill an original
Elena: "But the ash from the tree was saved, and witches forged a dagger to which the ash could be bonded. This alchemic bond provides the necessary poison"
(Stefan interrupted)
Stefan: Elena-
Elena: I wonder if this is true, do you think this dagger actually exists?
Victoria: Perhaps
Stefan: Girls, we know it does because John gave it to Damon
Elena: John gave Damon the weapon that's supposed to kill Elijah? This one?
Grayson Gilbert: Yes, he told me about it, and John made this way to the boarding house to give it to Damon
Elena: Dad, have you and Mom read this diary before?
Grayson Gilbert: No, we've only ever read the one that we've got back at home. As you can see there are a lot of diaries from Johnathan Gilbert
Elena: Then you all need to listen to this carefully, "It must be branded by humans alone for it will bring death to all demons who wield it"
(Stefan grabbed the diary quickly)
Victoria: That fucking asshole, he's trying to get Damon killed
Miranda Gilbert: Hey, hey, watch your mouth
(Stefan called Damon but he didn't answer and he left him a voicemail)
Elena: What is going on?
Annabelle: Damon's planning on killing Elijah tonight
(Elena's eyes widen at the revelation)
{In The Salvatore Boarding House}
[Damon invited the men for a cognac, Alaric turned it down, and Andie told them that the gentlemen should take it in the study. Jenna made John help them with the dishes while Damon made his way to the study, and Elijah followed him as well]
{In the lake house}
[Grayson called Alaric immediately and told him what they had just found out, and then Alaric quickly went to the study]
{In The Salvatore Boarding House}
[Damon and Elijah got to talking about what else Elijah needed, and then Alaric interrupted with the excuse that they had forgotten about dessert. Andie took Elijah to the dining room, Damon smacked Alaric's shoulder, and Alaric wrote him a note with the information. Andie and Elijah sat down with Jenna and John]
Jenna: Dessert is taking a little longer than I thought, it should be out in a second
(Andie and Elijah sat down)
Andie: I know this is a social thing, but I would really love to ask you more questions about the work you're doing here
Elijah: I'd love to answer
Andie: Great
(Alaric and Damon came back and Damon sat down)
Andie: Ric, Would you do me a favor and grab my notebook out of my bag?
(Alaric went to grab it)
Damon: Elijah, did John tell you he's Elena's and Tori's uncle slash biological father?
Elijah: Yes, I'm aware of that
Damon: Of course, they hate him, so there's absolutely no need to keep him on the endangered species list
Jenna: Damon
Damon: What? It's not like it's not true
Jenna: Damon
Andie: No, Ric, it's in the front pocket on the, you know what? Excuse me guys, sorry
(She stood up and went to get it)
John Gilbert: What I'd like to know, Elijah, is how you intend to kill Klaus
Elijah: Gentlemen and Miss Sommers, there are a few things we should probably get clear right now. I allow you to live to keep an eye on Elena and I allow Elena to remain in her house living her life with her family and friends as she does as courtesy. If any of you become a liability, I'll take her away from all of you and you'll never see her again
[Andie came back and sat down and before she could ask a question, Alaric stabbed Elijah with the knife from the back making him scream in pain, and making the others stand up in shock. Elijah went limp, Alaric took out the knife, and then he put it on the table]
Alaric: Done, get him out of here
Damon: Right
{In the Lake House}
[Elena was mad at all of them for going behind her back and Stefan told her that they wouldn't let Elena give up even if she didn't admit it to herself]
{In The Salvatore Boarding House}
[Damon put Elijah in the cell but a few minutes later, Elijah escaped, and when Damon heard a noise, he went to check it out. He noticed that Elijah was gone, cursed, and then went over to the lake house]
{With Elijah}
[He found Jonah, told him to find Elena, and told him what had happened to him. Jonah found her and Elijah went to the lake house, and Jonah went to Bonnie's house to confront her. When she tried to reason with him, he didn't listen, and then he took away her magic. He went back to his house]
{In the Lake House}
[Elena kept reading and told them that as long as the dagger remained in the original, they would remain dead. Damon called them to tell them the news and to tell them that he was on his way]

(The rest of the family came out and Elena stood up)
Elena: I'm glad you're okay
(She ran to him and hugged him, and Damon hugged her back)
Damon: Thanks to your dad here and no thanks to your uncle
Elena: I know
(She pulled away and everyone got ready to leave)
[The family plus Stefan repacked everything, Damon stuffed Elijah's body in the backseat of his car, and they all drove back to Mystic Falls. Stefan put Elijah's body in the cell, Damon took back the moonstone, and then they rejoined everyone upstairs. Elena told everyone that she didn't want anyone else going behind her back and that from now on, they would be doing things her way. They all agreed with her decision, the Gilbert Family went home, and Damon discovered Katherine in his shower. He found out that he was tricked by Katherine but she assured him that she would keep her promise of helping him protect Elena]
