Things had been looking up for Y/N and Yakimano. Over the past few weeks, they had taken significant steps towards healing their relationship. The once-toxic dynamic was gradually being replaced by understanding, communication, and a renewed sense of trust. Yakimano was doing his best to keep his promises, and Y/N felt like they were finally on the right track.

It was a Sunday morning when things started to take a turn. Y/N was in the kitchen, humming softly as she made breakfast. Yakimano sat on the couch, enjoying the peace of the moment. As he glanced at the kitchen, he couldn't help but smile, feeling grateful for the second chance they were given. The house felt like a home again, and he wasn't going to take that for granted.

But then, something caught his eye. Y/N had left her phone on the coffee table, and it buzzed with a notification. Out of habit, Yakimano glanced at the screen, intending to ignore it, but the name that popped up made him freeze.

"Chris: Hey, what time are we meeting?"

Yakimano's smile faded, replaced by a creeping sense of unease. He hadn't heard Y/N mention anyone named Chris before. His mind raced with possibilities, each one darker than the last. Was this someone new? Or worse, someone from her past?

He knew he shouldn't invade her privacy, especially after everything they'd been through, but the old insecurities were hard to shake. Yakimano's heart pounded in his chest as he picked up the phone, telling himself it was just to ease his mind. Just one quick look.

Unlocking the phone, he scrolled through the messages between Y/N and Chris. They seemed innocent enough—talks about life, inside jokes, and plans to hang out. But the familiarity between them, the way they interacted, set off alarm bells in Yakimano's mind.

"Who the hell is this guy?" he muttered under his breath, his grip tightening on the phone.

Y/N walked into the living room, a plate of pancakes in her hands, and immediately noticed the change in Yakimano's demeanor. His usual calm was replaced by a look of anger and confusion. She followed his gaze and saw her phone in his hand, the screen still lit up with the conversation.

"What are you doing with my phone?" she asked, her tone more surprised than accusatory.

Yakimano looked up at her, his jaw clenched. "Who's Chris?"

Y/N blinked, caught off guard by the question. "Chris? He's my best friend from college. I've told you about him before."

"No, you haven't," Yakimano shot back, his voice rising slightly. "Why didn't you tell me you were still talking to him?"

She sighed, setting the plate down on the coffee table. "I didn't think it was a big deal. We've always been close, but it's strictly platonic. There's nothing to worry about."

"Nothing to worry about?" Yakimano echoed, his frustration mounting. "You've been texting this guy behind my back, making plans to meet up, and you didn't think I'd want to know?"

"Behind your back?" Y/N repeated, her own temper starting to flare. "I wasn't hiding anything, Yakimano! I didn't think I needed to report every single conversation I have to you."

Yakimano stood up, running a hand through his hair as he tried to control his emotions. "It's just... we've been working so hard to fix things, Y/N. And now I find out you've been talking to some guy I didn't even know existed?"

Y/N crossed her arms, her frustration evident. "Chris isn't 'some guy,' he's my best friend. And I'm not going to stop talking to him just because you're feeling insecure."

"Insecure?" Yakimano's voice was tight with anger. "You think this is about insecurity? It's about trust, Y/N. How am I supposed to trust you if you're keeping things from me?"

She shook her head, exasperated. "I'm not keeping anything from you! You're the one who decided to go through my phone instead of just asking me about it."

There was a tense silence as they stared at each other, the progress they had made over the past few weeks now hanging in the balance. Finally, Y/N sighed, her expression softening.

"Look, Yakimano, I get that you're upset," she said, her voice more gentle now. "But Chris is important to me. He's been there for me through a lot, and I don't want to cut him out of my life. But you need to trust me when I say there's nothing going on between us."

Yakimano looked at her, the anger in his eyes slowly giving way to something else—fear, perhaps, of losing her all over again. He took a deep breath, trying to let go of the irrational thoughts that had clouded his judgment.

"I'm sorry," he finally said, his voice low. "I shouldn't have gone through your phone. I just... I don't want to lose you again."

Y/N stepped closer, placing a hand on his arm. "You're not going to lose me, Yakimano. But we need to trust each other if this is going to work."

He nodded, his shoulders relaxing slightly as the tension between them began to ease. "I know. I just—seeing those messages, it freaked me out. But I'll work on it. I promise."

Y/N gave him a small smile, hoping they could move past this. "Let's just take things one day at a time, okay?"

"Okay," he agreed, pulling her into a hug.

As they held each other, Yakimano silently vowed to do better. But deep down, he couldn't shake the lingering unease. Old habits died hard, and the fear of losing Y/N was one he wasn't sure he could fully conquer.
