The tension between Y/N and Yakimano had subsided after their confrontation about Chris, but the unease lingered beneath the surface. They both knew that the road to recovery was still rocky, but for now, they were trying their best to make it work. It was only a matter of time before the cracks in their relationship started showing again.
A week later, Yakimano planned a romantic dinner at home. He wanted to show Y/N that he was committed to fixing their relationship, so he went all out—cooking her favorite meal, setting the table with candles, and even putting on some of her favorite music in the background.
Y/N appreciated the effort. As they sat down to eat, they shared stories and laughs, and for a while, everything felt normal. But as the evening went on, the conversation took a turn.
"So, how was your day?" Yakimano asked, cutting into his steak.
"It was good," Y/N replied. "I went out for lunch with Chris and caught up on some work. It was nice."
There it was again—Chris. The name that had caused their last fight. Yakimano's smile faltered for a brief moment, but he quickly masked it. He didn't want to ruin the evening.
"That's good," he said, trying to sound casual. "You've been seeing a lot of him lately."
Y/N noticed the shift in his tone and sighed internally. She knew where this was going. "Yeah, we're just catching up after not seeing each other for so long. Why?"
"Just curious," Yakimano said, shrugging. "I mean, it's cool that you're friends, but it seems like you're spending more time with him than with me lately."
Y/N put down her fork, realizing that this was going to turn into another argument. "Yakimano, we spend plenty of time together. Chris is just a friend. I don't understand why this keeps coming up."
"Because I'm trying to understand why you need to spend so much time with him," Yakimano replied, his voice rising slightly. "I'm your boyfriend, Y/N. Shouldn't I be the one you spend the most time with?"
"You are!" Y/N shot back, her patience wearing thin. "But I'm allowed to have friends, too. You can't expect me to cut everyone else out of my life just because we're together."
"That's not what I'm saying," Yakimano argued. "But it feels like you're prioritizing him over me."
Y/N couldn't believe they were having this conversation again. "You're being paranoid, Yakimano. I'm with you, aren't I? What more do you want from me?"
"I want to know that I'm the most important person in your life," he said, his frustration clear. "But right now, it feels like I'm competing with some other guy for your attention."
Y/N shook her head, pushing her chair back and standing up. "This is ridiculous. I'm not going to keep defending my friendship with Chris. If you can't trust me, then maybe we have a bigger problem."
Yakimano stood up too, reaching out to grab her arm as she turned to leave. "Wait, don't walk away."
She pulled her arm away, her eyes flashing with anger. "I'm not doing this tonight, Yakimano. I've had enough."
He stared at her, his heart sinking as he realized how close he was to pushing her away again. "Y/N, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you. I just... I love you, and I don't want to lose you."
Y/N softened slightly at his words, but the frustration still lingered. "Then stop acting like this. Stop making me feel like I have to choose between you and my friends."
"I'll try," Yakimano said, his voice almost desperate. "Please, Y/N. Don't leave."
She hesitated, the anger slowly dissipating as she saw the sincerity in his eyes. "I'm not leaving, Yakimano. But you need to work on this. We can't keep having the same fight over and over."
"I know," he said, stepping closer to her. "I promise I'll do better. Just... stay with me."
Y/N sighed, finally nodding. "Okay. But this is the last time we're having this conversation."
"Deal," Yakimano said, pulling her into a tight embrace. He kissed the top of her head, relieved that they were still together, even if things were far from perfect.
As they stood there, holding each other, Yakimano couldn't help but wonder if he could truly let go of his insecurities. He wanted to believe that they could make it work, but deep down, he feared that the damage was already done.
