Gu Siyu handed her the flowers.
A large bouquet of pink roses. Huo Junxian lightly bit her lower lip, holding the flowers with both hands, slightly bowing her head to inhale the fragrance of roses blooming in winter.
The flowers complemented her, making Huo Junxian seem even more delicate.
“Let’s go home,” Huo Junxian said, reaching out to take her hand. Their fingers clasped tightly, and her palm quickly warmed up.
Inside, the air was filled with the fragrance of flowers, mingling with the unique chill of winter.
Huo Junxian entered the password, making a mistake on the first try, causing her fingers to tremble slightly.
The door opened, and they walked in together.
Gu Siyu closed the door behind them. Huo Junxian looked toward Teddy’s grave and said softly, “Xiao Yu, Gu Siyu is back.”
Her voice was gentle as she informed the other little owner in the house that Gu Siyu had returned, and she was very happy.
Gu Siyu squatted slightly at the corner of the yard, curious about the small boxes on the rainbow bridge. Opening them, she discovered they weren’t filled with jewelry or toys but small music boxes.
Turning the little cards on top produced a tinkling sound.
“You’ve been living comfortably,” Gu Siyu remarked.
Perhaps due to not having been back for a long time, Gu Siyu felt as though she heard a “woof.”
It was as if little Teddy was calling, still as lively as before, suddenly jumping up and rubbing against Gu Siyu’s leg.
Huo Junxian had kept Teddy’s fur very clean. He used to run over with a small football in his mouth, wanting Gu Siyu to play with him. Sometimes he’d steal snacks, afraid Huo Junxian would scold him, so he’d share the snacks with Gu Siyu.
Of course, Gu Siyu always found him a bit annoying, thinking he ate disgustingly.
Whenever someone bullied Huo Junxian, Teddy would bark fiercely, bristling with defense, growling and snapping, never letting go once he bit.
Only when familiar, would one realize he was actually very well-behaved and gentle, though sometimes he could be overly clingy. More often, he was truly a good dog.
Gu Siyu took a small ball from her pocket and placed it by the grave, bringing a gift for little Teddy.
Huo Junxian opened the door to the living room and asked, “Have you eaten?”
Gu Siyu had arrived early in the morning, waiting for Huo Junxian since the fog started. Now the fog had cleared, and it was past noon. Huo Junxian opened the door and let her in.
Photos hung on the walls.
They were from before, of her and Huo Junxian, and of them with the dog.
The home’s decor wasn’t brand new; it showed signs of use. Everything was arranged in a way that made her feel the warmth of the home.
Even though Gu Siyu had only brought a bouquet of flowers, stepping into the house felt like coming home, with someone waiting for her.
Huo Junxian noticed she was still standing at the door and gently said, “Come in.”
“Mm.” Gu Siyu nodded, stepping onto the doormat. Huo Junxian handed her a pair of slippers, and Gu Siyu bent down to change her shoes. Huo Junxian then took her coat, which Gu Siyu hung on the coat rack by the door.
