["jays night"]Walking into the communal kitchen as my presence is noticed by my father he instantly tucks an item he had once within his hand behind his back, reviewing his actions I stop my pathway and tilt my head curiously.
"What are you doing or do I not want to know?" I question him quietly.
"Erm I'm cooking..." My dad has to be know me better than that because I'm not going to fall for that one, he hasn't cooked since Alex was born.
"I'm not stupid Dad. Don't lie. Do I have to get it out of you!?" I place my hands on my hips as I hear his sighs of defeat.
"Okay. I'm wrapping your mom's anniversary present." I presents the half wrapped present upon the kitchen counter as I let out a chuckle of pity.
"On the morning of? Nice planning Dad." I pat him on his shoulders as I walk past him.
"Please don't tell your mother she will murder me..." His voice takes a serious tone as he walks shamefully upstairs towards their room where my mother is occupying. Taking a small sip of my coffee I hear the distant stumbles off my father walking up the stairs.
"Gotta fix that step—" I look down the floor and sigh as he hear is comment within the background.
Grabbing my phone out of my pocket I call Jack to make sure he is coming to my Grandpas house tonight. We call in Jays night, it's become family tradition, it's where all of the grandkids go over to his house for evening, wear PJs and watch a western movie.
I think it's good bonding time for the younger ones, none of us know how long we have left until everyone is doing their own thing and moving on, this helps bring us close.
Jack answers within two rings as I smile brightens across my face at the sound of his voice.
"I was just about to call you, you beat me." He speaks in a laugher.
"I was just calling to see if you were still coming over for Jays night." I ask with hope nothing has cropped up or gotten in the way.
"I wouldn't miss it Callie. I'll be there I promise, hopefully this time it won't end in Hayley and Alex having a cat fight over a game of poker." I relive the memories as I hear his words and violently shake my head.
"Don't worry I won't let it. So I'll see you tonight..." I speak in softer tone by the end of my sentence as I trace circles upon the kitchen counter with my fingers.
"Of course honey. See you soon. I love you." As I speak the same three words I hang up the phone and place it back into my back pocket looking up to the ceiling. No shouting just yet, maybe my dad actually got it right this year I think to myself.
That night me and my sibling are by the front door to our Grandfathers house.
"I still don't understand why mom won't let me go to that party? It's literally three blocks away from here and I'll be back in no time." Hayley wines to the left of me as I roll my eyes.
"Hayley. I understand why you're upset if someone invites you over that last thing you want to do is let them down." I speak in a nicer tone.
"Yes thank you. See Callie gets it." She huffs as I smirk to myself.
"I'm glad you agree with mom..." I ring the doorbell as I hear Hayley's confusion to the side of me which is shortly paused by Jack welcoming us into the house.
"Welcome..." He speaks as my siblings walk past him and into the household however I wait back and peck him on the lips which doesn't go down well with my siblings.
"Ew get a room." Alex mutters under her breath as Gloria and my Grandpa walk over towards us.
"You will be like that soon." Gloria laughs to herself while defending mine and Jacks actions as we just stand side by side laughing.
"I don't think so." Alex responds as I kiss her on the top of her head as she is trying to pull away from my affection.
"I'm sorry I love your sister." Jack waves his hand up in defence as he shuts the front door.
Later on in the night Jack sits beside me as I watch the western movies which is displayed on the TV.
"Got you some popcorn thought you could use a snack. It's about the time you start getting hungry." He reads me like a book sometime. Grabbing the popcorn out of his hand I produce a warm smile.
"It's like you can read my mind." I speak as I take a piece of popcorn and place it into my mouth, then we are both alerted by my Grandpa walking into the house from the back garden with Dylan following shorty behind his body.
"Erm what's going on?" I question the obvious as I hear my grandfathers sighs walking past the couch where me and Jack are sat upon.
"Hayley." From his one word I roll my eyes as I hear her boots emerging towards where we are sat.
"Be back by eleven." He points towards Hayley as she is now latched on Dylan's arm with a big smile spread across her face. I remember being like her a few lifetimes ago now.
"Yes I promise I will be back by eleven, thank you Grandpa." She expresses her gratitude as I rise to a stance.
"I will track you down." My grandpa warns them both as I let out a little laugh.
"I believe that." Hayley sighs and looks towards the ground before I take a step closer to Hayley, I go in for a hug as she meets me in the middle.
"Be safe and have fun okay." She nods as her head is over my shoulder.
"She'll be fine Callie. Don't stress." Jack places his hand upon mine as I send a warm smile down towards him on the couch.
"Oh my god the gunfighter I haven't seen this in forever." Dylan gets distracted by the movie on the TV as Hayley widens her eyes.
"Dylan the party..." She tries to remind him as his eyes are still fixated on the screen.
"But cowboys..." I hear a chuckle come from Jack as he hears Dylan's words.
"Don't fight it Hayley. They never grow up." Gloria speaks as she watches Dylan takes a seat on the couch next to Jack.
"She's right." I cross my arms as I towards the pair of men sat upon the sofa, Hayley storms off into the kitchen in a huff as I smirk to myself.
"Move up." I wave my hands over to the window as Jack makes room for me upon the sofa. Sitting down he rest his arms around my shoulder as I nudge myself into his body.
"Remember when we were like them?" Jack whispers into my ear as I chuckle looking up towards them.
"I do. I don't want to find out how much time you spent waiting for me to sneak out in the bush in the back garden." I slap his knee and then stroke them up and down.
"It's how I first met your Dad." From his words he places a kiss within the centre of my forehead as I let my eyes slowly close tightly.
"I have ears." My Grandpa sneaks up behind us as I laugh and looks up to him.
"Don't worry Grandpa we are just joking." I sink into my chair as I hear his footsteps slowly emerge away from us. Looking up towards Jack he looks almost scared from his presence, I nudge him out of it as he pulls me in tightly.
Always make the little moments last, they are the ones that last forever.
