["the debate"]

"Oh no— Dad look at this..." I pass the paper over to my dad as he is on the phone to Gloria and my mom has gone popped into the store.

"This is the last thing she needs today— No!" My dad snatches a paper out of one of the passers by hands before throwing it into garbage.

I try to hide my face within my hands. The Dunphys have a busy day today, we have a wedding tonight, our neighbours are getting married and Mom is debating with douchebag Duane Bailey in the local centre for race for local town council.

And now the Weekly Saver says some voters say my mom is quite angry and unlikeable.

"No one mentions this to Claire, we can't let this shake her confidence." My dad dumps the rest of the papers into the trash as I watch Mom inching closer to where we are stood.

"Dad, too late." I quickly try to grab his attention.

"What is it? What's this? Oh my god." She grabs the paper from underneath my arm as I grit my teeth.

"I have to go—" My dad ends the call.

Back at the house I am helping my mom unpack the groceries while also trying to get her mind of the fact most of the town finds her angry and unlikeable.

"It's not a big deal. How many people even read the Weekly Saver?" My mom questions placing the eggs in the fridge.

"22,000 ish."

"Dad, not helping." I whisper under my breath.

"And how am I angry and unlikeable!?" My mom snaps.

"Can I take this one?" Hayley jumps in.

"I wouldn't Hay—" Dad steps in.

"You seem quite angry now." She doesn't take his advice.

"That's because I am angry, at that poll..." My mom points her finger towards the paper Alex now has in her hands.

"I think it's the yelling, you should tone down the yelling." Luke wanders in playing his video game on his phone.

"Honey I don't yell for no reason." My mom shakes her head.

"You yelled at my teacher for calling me special."

"Honey that's not a compliment." My mom informs as I lower my gaze to the ground.

"How about we have a mock debate? You know a little practise run so we can pin point what you do well and don't do so well. Grab back the attention of the community." I beam with a smile.

"Yeah then we can point out all of the things that she does that can turn people off..." My dad points out as I offer him a weird glance. "Like that look, I would lose that look..." My dad points to my mom as she tries to stifle a smile.
