["the raddison"]"Oh my god gross I can't even picture you with a woman?" As I enter the kitchen Hayley's words make me take a small step back.
"Thank You." My mother kindly replies.
"What are we on about?" I ask to be filled in.
"Your father is having a lady friend over this afternoon, old girlfriend from college, she's called Denise." My mother grits her teeth as she folds the last of the laundry.
"You had a girlfriend before Mom?" Luke speaks mid crunch into his cereal.
"Try two. Trust me, I had plenty of fun in my time. Then I met your Mom." My dad speaks proudly as I take a long gulp.
"And thank you." My mother replies as my father looks shamefully down to his yoghurt.
"So what is she doing here? If she lived here then wouldn't she have been over already? You know to catch up?" I lean my elbows upon the kitchen counter.
"She's in town for work, works at a cosmetics sales company travelling around selling make up." My dad informs.
"So kind of like a door to door salesman?" I question as I take spoonful of yoghurt.
"If it was you Alex it would be a called a dork to dork salesmen..." My brother aims his heartfelt comment towards Alex as I nearly choke on my yoghurt.
"Oh! My boy strikes like a rattle snake." My father yells.
"Yeah well... what is wrong with me today?" Alex admits defeat as our mother kisses her head.
"Shake it off champ, it's not your day." My mother speaks in comfort.
Later that afternoon I am I mid email when I hear the doorbell chime downstairs. Knowing it is my father gal pal Denise I head down to watch the show unfold.
"Oh Denise I think you might know these people over here..." My father gazes over the staircase where me and my siblings are all stood.
"This is Alex, Hayley, Callie and Luke..." I smile warmly towards her as she scrunches her nose like I am some sort of five year old.
"Oh I used to have curly hair just like that when I was a kid." She compliments Luke's features as he seems to be more nervous than usual.
"So? That doesn't mean anything..." Luke runs back up the stairs as I glance towards my sisters knowing they have messed with him somehow.
"He gets nervous around new people." I giggle awkwardly as my sisters emerge back up the stairs.
"I better get back to work." I start to make tracks up the stairs until I am halted by her questioning.
"Oh what do you work as?" She asks intrigued.
"I work from home as a admin assistant for this sales company in the city, don't get too excited the only good thing they sell is blinds..." Chuckles commence around the room as I swiftly run back up the stairs.
After a few more emails I decide it's time to get grab a snack and see how my parents are doing downstairs, however upon arrival I see my mother sat in the living room alone.
"Mom? Where's Dad and his gal pal?" I speak in a hushed tone.
"Oh he's just showing her to the toilet... it's going really well actually, better than I thought it would." She directs her body towards me.
"Yeah because you thought she was going to be his misst—" I stop my words and take a step back towards the kitchen as I never take my eyes of my mother confused face.
"This conversation never happened." I point towards her.
Once arriving I take a deep sigh and overhear familiar voices coming from the pantry. Taking a closer listen I cover my mouth and investigate further.
"Here is my hotel room key. The Raddison, by the airport, you can come by whenever you want." After Denise's words I peek my head round the corner and come face to face with my father shocked face. Maybe I was right all along.
After my snack I try to shake my mind off what I had just heard, heading back upstairs I am paused by my mother's voice within the living room.
"So you were still dating her while you were dating me?" Widening my eyes I see my mother holding up a picture of what looks to be my father and Denise when they were younger.
"Okay I think that is my time to head back upstairs..." I speak uncomfortably as no one pays any attention.
"Erm— yeah maybe, there was a little overlap when I was trying to break thing of with Denise and yeah..." Stopping halfway up the stairs I roll my head back and gaze down upon my father.
"You took me to Santa Fe?!" Denise exclaims as I stride back down the staircase however almost fall in the process.
"Dad you have got to fix that step... but first fix whatever the hell is going on here first." I take a deep breath.
"Santa Fe? Phil you told me you went there with your Father!?" My mother slams down the picture onto the coffee table.
"Good job Dad." I mutter under my breath as I receive a glare from him.
"Okay I get it the pain is fresh but the lie is really old." He tries his best to explain his actions, very terribly.
"You know this was a mistake. I'm gonna leave." Denise speaks as she takes a swift back towards the front door.
"Yeah I think that's a good idea Denise..." I grit my words as she stares into my soul knowing I know something that I shouldn't, quickly I give her fake smile back.
"If I were you Claire, I would kick him out, maybe he would appreciate you more if he spent a night in a lonely hotel, in the Raddison, by the airport." He words boils my blood as I take a quick step forward, however before I can aim for her she is already out of the door.
Directing my gaze back over to my father he has confused look spread across his face as I sigh and make my way upstairs leaving them to deal with this one.
My Father can be stupid at times, very stupid, but I just didn't think he could be this stupid.
