["Scout"]

"Oh my god. Hi Grandpa!" I head into the kitchen to be greeted by my parents and grandfather. But in closer examination my eyes linger to the floor seeing a mid size scruffy dog.

"And who is this?" I kneel down patting his back.

"This is Scout, been my buddy on road for a while now." My grandfather laughs.

"Well it's good see you looking well Grandpa. I didn't know you were planning on stopping by I would have requested time off to spend some time with you." I tilt my head and rest my body on the kitchen counter.

"Oh you don't need to do that Callie. I'm just running through town in the RV, wanted to check how my boy was doing." He signals towards my dad as I smile to myself.

"So how's Jack? Still behaving?" He laughs as I let out a little snigger.

"Oh you know him too well Grandpa. He's fine, we all are." I answer.

"Oh I nearly forgot your mother sent some gifts for the kids. I will be right back, you four get better acquainted..." After his words I exits the room leaving tension filling the air.

"I cannot believe you got a dog without consulting me. This is a major family decision Phil." My mother states.

"Oh is there something going on here?" I question.

"Your father didn't tell me your grandfather was coming today with a dog..." My mother replies.

"I know. I'm sorry, it was wrong." My father tries to explain himself as my mother stabs him with her eyes.

"I'm eager to see how you gonna get out of this one Dad. When Luke sees the dog, it's game over... you know how much they have been babbling on about getting one." I smirk.

"You don't understand, this could be a good chance to let your brother and sisters learn about responsibility." My dad tries to see the light in the situation.

"That's exactly what you said about Luke's paper route." My mother speaks in a dull tone.

"Oh is that why you used to ride Luke's bike around at eight in the morning for like six weeks straight." I laugh as I feel my mother's judgemental eyes fall upon mine.

"Okay I'm gonna just head off and let you two deal with this one, on your own. Good luck, I think you're gonna need it Dad." After patting my dad on the back I make my way back upstairs.
