Drake sat in the chair opposite to Slayzes's bed. It had been over twenty-four hours since Slayzes had been rescued and all he was doing was sleeping, the same went for Riley. Drake had to put up a good fight against the nurse for him to stay in the same room as Slayzes for as long as he wanted when she came to do some tests on Slayzes. After a long argument, the nurse gave up and Drake had gotten his way.
Slayzes had an oxygen mask on and a few bags with water were hanging a bit to his left. There was a basket of water bottles by the foot of Slayzes's bed and one bottle was on the table next to his bed. A few snacks and fruits were in another basket on the side table. His ankle was in a cast because he had apparently fractured it.
"Here, Drake," Tim said, offering another mug of coffee to him. "You should get some rest soon, you've been up since yesterday morning."
"I'm not going to sleep until he wakes up again," Drake repeated for the hundredth time. "I don't want my brother to think I was careless and selfish. I've acted that way in the past but I won't now."
"You're like Olivia," Tim said, turning his head towards Slayzes. Drake didn't mind Tim talking about his mother, it made him feel comfortable in a weird sort of way. "He's like her too. You both have that same stubbornness, I can see you two look a lot like each other now that I've met you."
"I don't think my stubbornness was from Mum," Drake replied drowsily.
"You can't think that way about yourself, Drake."
"Why shouldn't I? Don't you despise me for what I did? I made Mum leave you for me."
"It's not you I should be despising. It's your father, Kile. He was a horrible father, you know that."
Drake gave little hum then turned his attention back to Slayzes. Honestly, Drake felt panicked and worried. What if Slayzes accidentally had some issue or had a severe sickness from being in that well? He didn't want to lose another family member. Especially now.
The door was heard opening and closing. Lucy walked by Tim and sat down in a chair next to Drake. "Anything new on him?" Lucy asked, gesturing her head to Slayzes.
"No," Drake answered tiredly. "Anything new on Riley?"
"Not since what I told you earlier. Her parents are in there now talking with Skylah."
"OK."
There was a long pause of silence filled in the room, except for the beeping from the heart monitor. Tim began to tap his shoe on the ground and Lucy walked out of the room and into Riley's. Drake didn't really know how to talk to Tim. It was kind of awkward, not just because they had never met before, but because Tim was treating Drake and Lucy like his own children. The only person who did the same was his mother.
"How'd you and your friends find out where he was?" Tim asked once he got bored from tapping.
"I don't really know," Drake answered truthfully. "Skylah decided to go snooping with Lucy and they just found some information." There was another long pause of awkward silence. "I'd prefer not to talk about it."
Drake finished his cup of coffee then put the cup on the side table next to the chair Lucy was sitting in earlier. He stood up and stretched, his bones were aching in his back and legs. He sat back down and continued to watch the heart monitor that stood next to Slayzes's bed. It was the most stressful sound Drake could ever hear, it made his muscles tighten and his jaw cringe every time it beeped.
"You and Lucy, you two should move in with us," Tim said. Drake snapped his head up and looked at Tim for a while. Move in with them? But what would happen to Skylah? What would happen to their house and where would they sleep? Would Slayzes approve of this? He never really liked sharing a dorm room with Drake. At least that was what he knew.
