After a few more days of staying at the hospital, Slayzes and Riley were allowed to leave. There was no point in returning to the academy because it was the holidays again. Slayzes and Riley decided to stay at their hometowns for the holidays due to the tension between Riley and Slayzes's parents and Slayzes and Riley's parents.
Slayzes never realised how much he would miss Riley; they had never really been separated before. They may of broken up but Riley was still at the academy, Slayzes would be able to see her almost everyday. But now they could only talk on the phone, however, Slayzes still found it hard to keep in touch with Riley.
Slayzes stared at his bedroom wall. There was a picture of him and Riley and it was making Slayzes want to talk to Riley even more, but Maya was trying her best to stop the two from talking, according to Riley. Slayzes didn't really have anything to do, he still needed to recover a bit, but he would rather be outside going for a jog or seeing a movie or hanging with Drake and Skylah.
It didn't really help that Tim and Cathy were fighting a lot now. It went all through the nights and Slayzes would wake up in the early afternoon tired and cranky. He didn't really understand what it was about, but he was guessing it would be about Riley's pregnancy. Cathy wasn't really happy with Slayzes, saying he should of played it safe with Riley but didn't. Tim would quickly defend Slayzes but then the two would start to fight again. In Slayzes's opinion, Cathy had no right to tell him how he should of acted. She was his stepmum, not his biological mum.
Around four thirty in the afternoon Drake had arrived at Slayzes's place and Slayzes felt happy that he wouldn't be alone for a while. It would be the first time Slayzes had talked to Drake since leaving the hospital.
"Mum and Dad won't stop fighting. I can barely sleep anymore and I miss Riley so much. How are you? How are Skylah and Lucy?"
"I'm fine, so is Lucy. Skylah moved back in with her mum yesterday. Her mum went searching for and finally tracked her down after three weeks of searching. But her parents are divorced now. Have been for seven months."
"That's too bad. But at least she is back with her family."
"Yeah. Her mum seems ... interesting. I don't think she likes me."
"She will. She never really liked me when I first met her. Don't worry. But how is Skylah after she found out about ... that?"
Drake knew what Slayzes meant when he said "that." Skylah had told Slayzes a little bit about what she found in Xavi's diary. It took a while for Drake to get Skylah to forgive him, but she did eventually.
"I don't really know. She won't talk about it," Drake replied, his tone suggesting a different subject.
"Right. Have you spoken to Xavi?"
"Don't say her name!" Drake barked, gritting his words through his teeth. "After what she did, I could of lost another family member!"
Slayzes felt a bit awkward and intimidated now. From past experiences, Drake had a short temper, and usually he would solve it with a punch or something to do with violence. It happened a lot when they were younger.
An hour later Drake left and Slayzes was once again left alone. He tried calling Riley, but her mum answered and said she was busy. Slayzes could hear Riley in the background, but Maya had hung up before she could talk to Slayzes.
Slayzes soon went down to dinner and Cathy had left for work. Tim sat opposite of him and had his dinner too.
Dinner was much more awkward then Slayzes thought it would be. There was no noise, just silence. Tim seemed like he wanted to speak, but had nothing to say.
