There wasn't much in the cave behind the enormous waterfall, besides Drake and his two minions. Slayzes went home after exploring the cave, he and Skylah both went to their own homes to tell their parents about Elemental Academy. Slayzes reached for the door knob, thinking of what to say to his dad and Cathy.
Slayzes opened the door and walked into the living room. "Cathy! Dad! I am home! I also need to tell you both something!"
Slayzes's dad walked down the stairs, his wife following behind him. "What is it?" Tim asked curiously.
"I want to go to Elemental Academy ..."
"What!" they both exclaimed in sync.
"Yeah, Skylah is going, and well ... I want to go too! She pointed out to me that I did have a interest in fire. So? Can I go please?"
"Absolutely not!" Cathy scolded, folding her arms. "It is far too dangerous! Slayzes, you must stay here! You have responsibilities here! I will not allow you to go!"
"But–!"
"No buts! That's the way it has to be!"
"I'm on Cathy's side with this one," Tim said calmly.
"C'mon Cathy! This is so unfair! Can't we discuss it?"
'No!"
"Fine then! Thanks for a terrible birthday present!" Slayzes stormed up to his room, slamming his door right behind him.
For the rest of the evening Slayzes stayed in his bedroom, lifting weights, it helped him relieve stress. Slayzes could hear his thoughts so loudly. It was like they were telling him that he shouldn't give up such a easy fight, even if it is against his step-mother. Slayzes stopped lifting weights, and sat on his bed, still hearing the thoughts in his head.
You can still go! Who cares about what your Cathy said? She is just scared.
Slayzes heard a knock on the door, his father then came into his room and sat next to Slayzes. "I had a chat with Cathy," he said.
"What did she say now?" Slayzes spat.
"She still won't allow you to go the Academy, but I think going to the Academy will be good for you. We don't have many schools here, like Earth. We only have special academies and such. I want you to have a happy life Slayzes, but your Cathy is afraid of losing you and I am too," Tim explained.
"What? Why didn't you guys say so?"
"I don't know. But it does cost quite a bit of money to get into Elemental Academy, just over five hundred dollars.
Slayzes stood up from his bed. He then walked over to the door knob. "I need to apologise to Cathy! I also need to talk this through with her, with you too, Dad."
"OK, I'm coming." Tim stood up and folled Slayzes as he opened the door and exited the room. He walked towards Cathy, who was sitting in the lounge room upstairs. "Cathy, why won't you allow me to go Elemental Academy?" Slayzes didn't receive a response, so Slayzes asked his question again, "Cathy, why can't I go to Elemental Academy!"
"Because ..." Slayzes barely heard his her voice, it was faint, really faint. "I won't see you for months. And Elemental Academy is extremely dangerous, Tim could lose you and he has seen enough after Olivia," she finished.
Slayzes looked at his Cathy. Is that really why she wouldn't allow me to go? Slayzes thought.
"Cathy–"
"I will miss you! I would barely see you! Is that what you said to Skylah?"
"That wasn't exactly what I said, but it was something like that. But Skylah pointed out that I also have an interest in the elements," he said.
"Of course..." she paused for a minute, it was just a room full of awkward silence, the wind could be heard from outside. "I will let you go, Slayzes... Just, stay out of trouble there?"
"Thank you, Cathy! Thank you so much!" Slayzes ran up to his step-mum, and gave her the biggest hug he had ever given her. "I am also sorry for what I said earlier! I would stay, but I gotta tell Skylah! BYE!" Within a minute, Slayzes was out the door and on his way to Skylah's.
Slayzes reached Skylah's house after five minutes of running. Slayzes was puffed, but his excitment was helping him run, no matter how much his body had been hurting. Slayzes climbed up the ladder, that led to the door of Skylah's home.
Slayzes knocked on the door, he waited for an answer, but nobody gave him one. Slayzes knocked again. "Hello? Anybody there?" Slayzes didn't get a reply. Skylah said she would be home.
"Slayzes, I'm down here!" Skylah called out.
Slayzes turned his head down to the place where he heard Skylah's voice. Skylah was sitting there, just sitting there. "I am allowed to go to Elemental Academy! My parents allowed it! What about you?" Slayzes waited for a reply from Skylah, but instead he got Skylah crying and hugging him. "Skylah? What's wrong?"
"My parents kicked me out!"
"Wait, what? Why?"
"I told them about Elemental Academy, and they ... they kicked me out as soon I told them about it!"
"There is your stuff Skylah!" Slayzes had recognized the voice, it was Skylah's mother. She had dropped a bag, full of Skylahs clothes, food, and a few other things.
"Skylah ..." Slayzes stared into Skylahs tearful eyes, Slayzes passionately kissed Skylah. "Now let's go home."
"Thank you, Slayzes."
