Thirty-One

AFTER RECEIVING THAT text five days ago, David has never been the same. He became quiet, agitated, and always so deep in his own thoughts. Not to mention, he rarely engages in a conversation with Warren that is purely unrelated to work. He never jokes around anymore or blurts out his signature sarcastic remarks.

Warren tried to bait David so many times, luring his bodyguard to at least show a bit of the personality Warren has become accustomed to, yet nothing. His bodyguard was so cold and distant.

Whenever they're at home, David will always lock himself inside his room, doing god knows what. Warren knows the guy wasn't sleeping because he could hear shuffling noises inside whenever he walked past his door.

However, even though Warren had that kinds of suspicion he never actually acted on them or confronted David because he was still giving David the space he needed.

Despite his sudden changes, David was still doing his job perfectly. He's still doing the purpose of why he's hired in the first place, but at the same time... He was also failing. He was indeed at Warren's side all the time now, since he doesn't like the distance Warren created between them before, but it also feels like he's not.

His physical body was there, but his mind was drifting away to some place Warren doesn't know where... just like what's happening right now.

Warren picked a folder from the stack he has on his desk. It contains all the contracts of his new artists as well as the request papers of his old artists regarding their songs that were to be released.

He opens the folder but fails to read the first page when David occupies every space in his mind again.

Warren side-eyed David and took a peek at him, but he wasn't able to see his bodyguard's face completely, so he turned his swivel chair around and faced it in David's direction.

Warren parted his legs as he reclined his body on the backrest. Warren saw the same thing he sees in David's eyes these past few days: it was cold, empty, and seemed distant.

Warren blows an exasperated sigh.

"Ladrico." His voice was now stern. And it only means one thing—Warren was beginning to lose patience with this unbearable situation they're in.

Miraculously, David somehow heard him and turned his head to the side. His ocean eyes were meeting Warren's chocolate ones.

"Yes, my lord?"

"Come here," Warren commanded.

"It's okay, I could actually hear you—"

"I said, come here," he said in a growly tone this time.

Now there's no room for any disobedience. That's what Warren's voice was indicating. Either David will move his two feet, or the two of them will have a problem.
