Twenty-Four

IT DIDN'T TAKE long before the police arrived at the shore. David was already awake at that time, and they weren't in a compromising position anymore when the police found them.

David didn't waste any time and quickly made a few suggestions to the Chief of Police, like setting up a perimeter around the whole area and looking for signs of any unregistered vehicles.

David also suggested looking at every boat around the island, in case the assassin would hide and seek shelter there.

After filling them in with the information about the assassin, David and Warren didn't have any reason to stay there any longer, so they went back to the beach house.

Back in David's room, they're currently sitting on the edge of the bed, bodies angled towards each other, while Warren is treating the cut on his bodyguard's left cheek.

"Tch. You kept saying you can handle that assassin just fine, but look at this?!" Warren huffed.

Inilayo ni David ang mukha niya sa bulak na hawak ni Warren at saka sinamaan ito ng tingin. "That's the fifth time, Warren. Hindi ka ba napapagod? Saka daplos lang yan, malayo sa bituka."

"What if that knife was laced with poison? You could've died!"

"But I didn't, so let's leave it at that."

Warren scoffed. He grabbed David's chin and pulled the man harshly.

"Hey! Be gentle! Injured person here, remember?"

Warren raised an eyebrow at him. "I thought this cut was nothing?"

Natameme naman si David sa sinabi ni Warren. "It is... nothing."

"Good. So stop whining then, and let me clean it for you," Iritableng sabi ni Warren atsaka nagpatuloy sa paglilinis ng sugat ni David.

Nang mailagay na ni Warren ang band-aid sa sugat ni David ay agad niyang inayos ang mga ginamit at binalik iyon sa first aid kit. Itinapon niya rin ang mga bulak at plaster na kanyang nagamit kanina. 

He walked towards David's bed, but he remained standing. "I'm going to check on the others. I'll be leaving you now so you can rest."

Akmang tatalikod na sana si Warren at handa nang lumabas pero bigla siyang pinigilan ni David. Nakahawak ito sa kanyang pulsuhan. Napatingin muna si Warren doon bago umangat ang tingin niya kay David.

"What is it? Do you still need something?" Warren asked softly.

Silence lingered around David, and he just stared at Warren's face. At first, he doesn't know why he stopped Warren from leaving the room. But now that Warren asked him if he needs something, David finally found the reason why he doesn't want the curly-haired man out of his sight.

After what happened last night and this morning, David was on edge. He felt like any time someone was going to emerge from the dark corners of this mansion and attack his boss.

And this time, they'll probably succeed because he's injured and completely worn out. He won't be able to protect Warren or even defend him from the assailants coming his way.
