The first day of university was supposed to be a fresh start. Including for Soobin.
It meant leaving behind the suffocating routine of high school.
Leaving the small-town filled with whispers and sideways glances.
It meant stepping into the anonymity of a sprawling campus, where no one knew his secrets.
It was a chance for Soobin to blend in, to be just another face in the crowd.
He stood in front of the tall building, dorm key and documents in hand, a pack of suitcase and a couple boxes on top of it on his side.
He might be smiling from excitement, but there's this undeniable feeling of anxiety rushing through his veins.
Soobin studied the building and was sure he was heading to the right one. As he took a turn at one of the halls he collided with another student, sending both of them stumbling back.
"Sorry!" Soobin blurted out, his face flushing with embarrassment. The other student, a tall guy—not as tall as him—with blonde hair and a dazzling smile, just laughed it off.
"No worries, man. Happens to the best of us," the guy said, flashing Soobin a grin that was equal parts charm and mischief before hurrying off down the hall.
Soobin shook his head, trying to shake off the awkwardness of the encounter.
He took his key from the ground and looked at the numbers on it one more time. "C-312" he muttered.
The dark-haired boy proceed to the third floor, heading for the twelfth door which was situated at the right side of the hall. To his surprise, the door was slightly ajar.
Didn't the lady say my roommate will be arriving in the evening or something?
Soobin just shrugged it off and entered the room.
Just as expected, the room wasn't empty. It was already filled, at least the half part of his supposed roommate's was.
Walls decorated with posters, some artists he knew, a guitar standing idly by the study desk.
"Oh, hi!" The boy sitting at the other bed greeted.
Oh?
The boy was gorgeous. His hair is striking pink, a bit faded, like cotton candy, with light blue streaks all around. He's wearing a white tee with yellow cardigan on top.
"H-hi," Soobim replied hesitantly. It would be a lie if he said he's not a little intimidated.
The other boy wears his personality around his sleeves and Soobin... well, he is him.
"This is room 312 right? Building C?" Soobin confirmed, afraid he is making a fool of himself by barging into another room.
The other boy jumped from his bed. "The one and only," he cheered as he approached the taller boy and offered him his hand.
"I'm Yeonjun. Looks like fate decided we should be friends, huh?"
Soobin hesitated, then shook his hand, feeling the warmth of Yeonjun's grip. Fate or not, things were already getting mixed up.
"Soobin," he smiled softly as he warm up to the other. "I guess we should."
