He'd moved.
Ana hadn't checked the tracker in a few days, as she'd been focused on finishing up her latest case before her vacation had started. A small problem had crept up, creating more issues for her and causing her to work much later hours than she'd like over the last few days. Her focus had been completely off of Xavier while she'd been working.
But not off of Aidan. She swore that the more she tried to stop thinking of him, the more she thought about him. It was almost like she was obsessed with him. He was always there, hovering in the back of her thoughts, and if she let her mind dwell on him at all, she'd be turned on, her body responding to him like he was right there in front of her with his face buried between her thighs.
But finally, she was done with her case, having closed it all neat and tidy with a pretty red bow, and she'd grabbed her things and walked out of her office, ready to head home. She'd stopped in her boss's office on the way home, letting him know she'd see him when she returned.
"Case finished?" he'd asked.
"Yup. It's done. The file is sitting on my desk."
He'd nodded. "Have a nice vacation, Ana."
She'd come home and kicked off her heels first thing, then headed into her bedroom to get out of the business attire she'd been wearing. She'd taken a quick shower, then let her silvery hair lose, letting it fall down around her shoulders as she'd pulled on some lounge clothes. She walked back into the kitchen to make herself something to eat, then flipped on the laptop. She needed to really start making plans if she was going to see Xavier.
Seeing that his location had changed wasn't exactly what she'd wanted to see, but she was glad she'd looked. Xavier was no longer in California. He was now in Pennsylvania. And judging from the address on his license, he was back at home. Ana pursed her lips, not at all sure what to think of that. She noticed a button near the bottom of the page that listed a history and clicked on it.
Her eyebrows flew up to her hairline and she let loose a low whistle. Xavier had been everywhere. Literally, all over the United States. Her gaze moved over the dates and times slowly, taking them all in. There was a lot of recorded data, from practically every state in the union over the last few months. She scrolled back through, noticing that he'd gone to Oklahoma first, and was there a few days before he'd left. Then, it had been like he'd just taken a major road trip, his goal to see the entire US.
She frowned. Major road trip? With her father? She doubted it. If she was Xavier Remington, she'd want to get as far away from her father as possible. And even further away from Clyde. He hadn't stayed anywhere for any real length of time either. It was like he ... she sat back, thinking. Then she started googling some of the locations that he'd spent any length of time at.
Her brow furrowed. Had he been on a semi? The more she looked, the more she realized it made complete sense. But why? She bit her lip. He wouldn't have access to his memories. He wouldn't know who he was. He didn't have any money. Had some trucker just felt sorry for him and let him ride along? She grabbed his wallet and pulled out his ID. It wasn't a commercial driver's license.
Then she did a search on him. Why in the world she hadn't before, she wasn't sure. There wasn't much on him at all, though she quickly realized he was associated with a company called Remington Enterprises. The CEO was one Daniel Remington. The company was worth trillions, and made her wonder if her father and Clyde had any clue who they'd been messing with. She shuddered.
She'd looked at the images on the web too, but there really was nothing. She couldn't find any of Xavier, and maybe a handful of this Daniel Remington. He was very good looking and she could see a bit of a resemblance between him and Xavier. They were definitely related. She wondered if Daniel was perhaps a brother. Her eyes narrowed. Was he a werewolf too?
She had mulled the whole werewolf thing over in her mind quite a bit since she'd found out about them. She had no idea how one went about becoming a werewolf. Did his family know he was one? Who knew.
She still didn't know much about werewolves in general. She'd done a bit of research on them, but in all reality, it was all speculation, and nothing seemed definitive. She wondered if that was intentional. She really had no idea. How many people out there were actually werewolves? She had about a million questions, and wondered if she was to ask Xavier if she could interview him about all of it, if he would actually be willing to talk to her. She highly doubted it. He'd probably think she was nuts, and given who her father was, and what he'd done to him, she wouldn't blame him if he told her no.
Her gaze drifted back to the screen. Well, she was glad she hadn't booked a flight to California yet. She'd wait till the last minute to book it in case he moved again. She didn't want to be chasing him all over the country. She sighed. Somehow, she doubted her father was with him. She couldn't imagine the man would want to take a road trip with his captor. More than likely, Xavier had escaped, and maybe that was why her father was on the run.
She'd scoured through the notebooks and the computer, looking for the location of the lab, but her father hadn't recorded it anywhere. She didn't like that. She had no way of knowing if the building was somewhere that someone could go into and find evidence of her father and Clyde's misdeeds. She scoffed. Misdeeds. More like crimes. Both her father and Clyde needed to be locked up in jail and the key thrown away. She was well aware of that fact. But at least it looked like Xavier had found his way home. Either his family had found him, or he'd gotten his memories back.
If he'd gotten his memories back though, he would have had to have had brain surgery. How fast would he recover from that? She'd read over her father's notes about his recovery time from having his blood drained. Coleman had been exceptionally impressed by how quickly Xavier's body was able to heal from the loss of blood. And from the initial brain surgery, the one he had been sure would kill Xavier. Apparently Xavier Remington was indestructible.
She remembered back to their disappointment over the other werewolves they had captured, how they hadn't been as resilient as Xavier. Not that they'd had much time to do anything with them, or at least as far as she knew. It was another reason she wanted to know where the lab's location was. She wanted to know if there were people there that needed rescued. Werewolves. People. She pursed her lips. Well, they looked human.
Xavier was the only one there were pictures of though, or at least she thought so. She opened the file again, looking at them. They were all labeled Patient X. She flipped through them one more time. Though none of them were a full body shot of him, one thing was for sure. The man's body was hot. Not Aidan hot, but damn close. His abs were perfect, his chest was perfect, his arms well muscled, and the tattoos were hot. She had a thing for tats, which had only become more enhanced since she'd met Aidan.
Ana leaned back in her chair. She needed to be done for the night. She'd pack her things in the morning and book the first flight to Pennsylvania. Of course she'd check to make sure he was still there before she did that, but hopefully he would be. She now wished she knew where Aidan lived. She so wanted to go see him.
She scoffed. He'd probably forgotten about her. He probably spent the night with different women all the time. She was such an idiot, pining away for a man who had probably completely forgotten about her. She rolled her eyes and stood, stretching. She'd head for bed. At least if nothing else, she could see him there.
