"Hi, everyone," you smiled at your hero friends in front of you, who looked up in surprise at your sudden appearance at the end of their table.
"Y/N!" Mina bounced in her seat.
"L/N!" Kirishima excitedly stood up from his seat in the middle of Bakugou and Sero, "Come sit!"
You nodded, making your way to Mina's side at the other end of the table when Kirishima stopped you with a loud voice, "No! Sit here in the middle so we can all talk to you!" he explained.
But before you could adamantly refuse his offer, Kirishima had already moved to the only open seat next to Mina, leaving you to curse him in your mind as you stepped up to take his original seat.
Under the table, a pink hand and a calloused one fistbumped to their swift and suave plan.
Bakugou glared at you as you sat down next to him, "Don't be annoying."
You strained a smile, "No promises!"
Mina, who was now in front of you, beamed, "What've you been up to?!"
You shrugged tensely, muttering with a spoonful of yogurt going into your mouth, "I've been busy."
"You and Shinsou both," Kaminari whined next to Mina, "You guys haven't eaten with us in forever!" He made it a point to pout at you, causing you to laugh.
At his mention of your ex-classmate, you frowned, "How is Shinsou?"
Now that you harbored feelings of your own towards a certain unattainable blond, it was easier to sympathize with the purple-haired hero student's similar situation...if it were true.
You didn't want to imagine him in the same conflicted state you spent a lot of your nights in, thinking of you of all people. All you could do was hope Mina's comment that had implanted itself into your mind had never been true in the first place.
"I'm well," a deep voice spoke from the head of the table. Speak of the devil.
The four receptive people at the table welcomed Shinsou with cheers, Bakugou with an indifferent scowl, and you with a shy smile.
You hadn't seen him since...since when have you talked to your ex-general studies friend? He was finally here in front of you and you weren't making your usual moves to be friendly to him - the awkwardness of seeing each other for the first time in a long time was palpable.
And now that you had come to understand the complications of secretly liking someone, you couldn't help but feel like a terrible person for distancing yourself from him. You were his classmate first, had been the first person at UA to talk to him; All of that seemed to finally rush into your oversensitive mind, and you longed to mend the broken rift you had perpetuated from your own yielding to mindless gossip.
When Kirishima welcomed him to take the seat beside him, Shinsou shook his head and explained he'd be sitting with Midoriya and walked off, leaving you to sit in your growing guilt.
"He looks more tired today," Sero said after Shinsou's leave, "And I think Aizawa has him doing extra hero lessons."
"Poor Shinsou," Mina sighed, shaking her head in sympathy as she also knew how grueling Aizawa's extra lessons could be.
"Yeah," Kirishima smiled sadly, "He's working double of what we do, that's rough."
"That's what he signed up for," Bakugou spoke lowly.
"Aw, c'mon, dude," Kaminari replied, "You don't have mercy for anyone, huh."
"Tch. If he wanted an easy life he wouldn't have chosen to transfer," Bakugou spat and continued when everyone looked at him with blank faces, "What? You idiots of all people should know the workload."
