Nearly two weeks have passed since that weird night at Bakugou's birthday party, and you hadn't found a moment alone with him - much less an appropriate moment if you'll ever get around to doing something like that - to bring up the hug? control hold? restraint? well, whatever Todoroki had walked in on.
When you closed your eyes, you could still feel the heat off his body, the weight of his strong hand on your back pressing you impossibly closer to him, so close your mind glowed with sparks of excitement at his nostalgic scent of scorched sugar.
It felt so warm and safe, despite his bigger frame casting a shadow over you on that dark road.
But it took everything in you not to think about what happened too deeply the next time Bakugou came to school and rattled on about his much more important feats of his work-study at your shoe locker for about five minutes before turning on his feet to go to class, as if that idiot hadn't pulled a move on you that you would've kicked someone to the curb for.
You had slammed your shoe locker and the students around quickly scattered away like ants, already knowing not to be around the president in one of her bad moods.
And at lunchtime, you sat with your class friends, stirring your udon and ignoring the red eyes boring holes at you from across the cafeteria.
"What do you do when you like someone?"
You immediately regretted joining their conversation about crushes and heartaches when they turned to look at your shy voice with shocked glittering eyes like you were the cutest thing with two heads.
"WHAT?"
"You got a crush?"
You looked around worryingly when they raised their voices, "I'm just asking," you were ready to take it back, but sighed and looked at your noodles, "Would it be okay for me to...have a boyfriend?"
"Eh?! Since when do you want a boyfriend?!"
Well, they were zero help. You should've just sucked it up and told Mina a hypothetical situation.
Even though some of the school still thought you were in a relationship - not that Bakugou would want it - but in that scenario where he was your real boyfriend, you felt like you'd be betraying all of UA by getting into a real one. Their Student Council President...fallen. You could already see the side-eyeing you'd get from your more serious council members.
All the help you've given and yet you couldn't help yourself with your own problems.
You felt all the temperatures from a stove dance across your face when all they did was keep trying to pry more information out of you instead of giving you validating answers, and you instinctively stole a glance over at Bakugou who narrowed his eyes into a meaner glare now that he had your attention.
He was so irritating!
You knew better though. You shouldn't bother him with your feelings - not like you'd actually do it - especially with the approaching Sports Festival that had both of you knee deep in busy work.
But even when a student from the adjacent general studies class asked you to study with him in the library, and when a basketball player asked you to watch his free throws for some odd reason, you still made time to support those who needed a helping hand.
Meanwhile, Bakugou threw himself completely into his work with his usual drive for perfection, the third year tournament ended with Midoriya standing on the first place podium, and Bakugou's hard-set eyes as he calmly stood up there with his head held high on the second place podium promised an all-engulfing blaze of determination like nothing you'd ever seen.
