The young Achron gently waved the fingers of her right hand until she felt a thick thread. She didn't look at him, but Lys knew exactly what he looked like: golden, fraying in places, and only she could see. She knew this thread by heart by dint of manipulating it.
According to his parents, it was "a tangible element projected by the mind to apprehend time in a more intuitive way and facilitate the alteration of its course". Pompous words that never failed to lose Lys.
The girl groped in the air to find the fine bond that started from her heart to join the thick golden thread. She grabbed it and tugged at it gently, testing its resistance.
It was slightly elastic, but not enough to put her in danger if she used her power. Lys was often imprudent, but she always took care to check the condition of her yarn before altering the course of time. The young Achron had already seen the havoc that an irresponsible and unsafe use of her powers could cause.
His older brother was still paying the price.
With the skill of habit, Lys pinched the link and pulled on it to alter the flow of time. No one would notice, she was only speeding it up for herself.
The world began to distort around her before becoming slightly blurry. The headmistress's lips moved faster and faster, spouting sounds that the acceleration of time made incomprehensible. When the students began to applaud, the young Achron let go of her thread and joined them.
