Disconcerted, the young Walker moved a little away from the false Lys. She didn't seem dangerous, as she was doing nothing but sobbing, but Lauren was wary. She had questions.
"It's your fault!", "I'm a monster"... Why did the Achron have these kinds of nightmares? She seemed to feel guilty. Why? What had she done?
Lauren sighed. That wasn't what mattered at the moment. She would have plenty of time to think about it later.
She decided to head for the manor, but took the time despite her slightly shaky hands to shoot the fake Lily in the skull. It seemed harmless, certainly, but appearances were often deceptive. Lauren acted pragmatically, although she hated it.
The light she had created brought the shadows to life. Dead trees lined the path to the house, stretching their branches like so many hooked fingers. The earthen ground was covered with dead grass that cracked under her feet. Strange animals flew above her, a sort of mixture of rats and bats with many glowing eyes, which ignored her superbly.
As the Walker was about to push open the doors of the mansion, the entire nightmare began to shake, as if struck by seismic waves. The shaking caused Lauren to fall, and she was doing her best to stay calm. Her fingers clenched the butt of his gun with such force that they turned white. She knew what was going on.
The bad dream changed its configuration. The young girl had already had many hours of theory on the subject, but the practice turned out to be much more violent and distressing... more real.
