Despite the panic that swept over her, Lauren tried to list everything she could do. She couldn't get out of the bad dream with her powers, so she was forced to find Lys to force her to wake up. The Walker stood in the middle of the pontoon, which left her with two choices: return to dry land or dive back into the lake.

With a wave of her hand, the girl called upon her power to create a pistol. A Sig Sauer P365XL, with which she had been training for years. At least that part of her gift was working properly, she rejoices weakly. The weight of the gun in her hand reassured her.

The low light of the place and the downpours of water restricted her vision. In a few gestures, she materialized a waterproof shield around her and made a luminous ball float a few steps in front of her, at ground level: Lauren was not going to put it above her head like a sign indicating "attack me" around her! She did not know what could be hidden in the darkness.

With measured steps, she advanced towards the figure while holding it at gunpoint. She didn't want to admit it to herself, but she was afraid.

Lauren feared she would die.

Walkers could roam dreams and, once they reached a certain level of mastery, trap their target by preventing them from waking up. On top of that, they were able to merge dreams and reality, allowing dreamlike wounds to kill their target.

And it seemed that a high-level Walker had locked Lauren in Lys's nightmare. Who? What for? For what purpose? So many questions for which she did not have the answers. The only thing that mattered, for the moment, was his ability to survive.

When the girl was only a few steps away from the prostrate human form, she found that she looked very much like the Achron. However, a bad feeling dictated that it was a monster. She decided to say in a slightly hesitant voice:

"Lys? It's you?"

The figure looked up before turning to Lauren. It was indeed Lys, but not the real one. That Lys was much younger, smaller, and more terrifying. Her left eye, devoid of her usual mydriasis, was of a bloody red. Five huge scratch-like scars barred her face. She wept without stopping, repeating a litany of words:

"I'm a monster... I'm a monster... I'm a monster..."
