After nearly an hour of discussion interspersed with delicate kisses, Alexandre and Lauren kissed one last time. They had to go their separate ways. The Walker uttered one last sentence before starting to walk away:
"We'll see each other soon, won't we?"
"As fast as possible," he promised tenderly with a smile as he left in the other direction.
The Vampire quickly rebuilt his impassive face, as he had been taught. As he walked, his chest straightened and his chin rose with feigned arrogance.
The classrooms went by until he heard a noise coming from one of them. Yet, no one was supposed to be there. Alexander knew that curiosity was a bad thing, but a few words caught his attention, so he stopped at the door to listen.
"... must not be caught," declared a melodious, soft and feminine voice. "Got it?"
"Yes," said another, whom Alexander could not attach to any kind.
"Good," replied the woman. "The first target you need to eliminate is this Electromancer, Kiara. Make sure you don't leave any trace by killing her."
Alexander's breath stopped. They were plotting to commit murder! He had to report it immediately. However, he had no evidence and no way to record the conversation. His phone was in his suitcase, inaccessible.
No one would believe it. He would be laughed at again – liar! You make up stories to make yourself interesting! Alexandre, stop lying! Stop!
And his parents would still be disappointed – you are the shame of our family! You should never have been born! Why didn't you die that day in your brother's place?
The memories made him shudder. It was in the past, but it still marked him.
The Vampire knew what he had to do: find out who the plotters were before they acted.
"Somebody is listening to us," said the female voice quietly.
