Alexander wrinkled his nose as he walked through the crowd of motionless students. The girl next to him exuded a smell of blood that whetted her appetite – and that, the Vampire wasn't ready. Vampire girls didn't have periods, and this was the first time he had felt so much blood around him. Was it going to be like this for the whole year? He hoped not.
The constant hunger, fanned by the tempting smell, made him in a bad mood. Add to that a brutal encounter with a Lympyre – he had asked her to push himself but she had decided to ignore him, so he had bumped into him – and you have a Vampire in a dog's mood.
On the director's orders, the student mass began to move again, facilitating Alexandre's progress. He was almost in the front row – the winners' place, his place.
A huge room followed the hall, filled with small tables arranged randomly. Some even floated in the air, moving slowly, intended for Vampires, Lympyres and a few Golds able to climb up there. "The Refectory" announced the headmistress, as if the students were too stupid to deduce the use of the tables. This greatly annoyed Alexander, and the place made him even hungrier, a diabolically incessant leitmotif.
