"You can't lock him up dad."
"He is a menace to society."
"This is the first time this has ever happened. Can't we have him do therapy, or classes to help him learn his abilities better?"
Christian heard sighing. "Even though I don't like this one bit, but because it's you guys; I shall see what I can do."
"Thanks dad."
"Thanks Mr. Thornefield."
That's when he heard Bryan's dad mutter to him. "You are very fortunate to have people who love you dearly. You better not let me down, or I shall lock your sorry butt in a very unpleasant place." Christian felt shivers go up and down his spine as the sound of footsteps grew softer and then disappeared.
"You may open your eyes now." John spoke into his ear.
"How'd you know I was awake?"
"You shook like a leaf when Mr. Thornefield talked to you."
Christian opened his eyes to stare at his family looking relieved to see him. "He wants to throw me in jail?" Everyone frowned.
"You know how you couldn't do shadow magic?" Roger asked Christian.
"Yeah."
"There's a reason for that."
"Like what?"
"Blood magic."
"Blood magic?"
Calvin stepped forward. "It is very rare, but very dangerous to possess this ability. You can manipulate blood in any shape or form. Including inside a person."
Christian's sat up. "What?"
"Take it easy." Jacob gently pushed Christian back down.
"But."
"Don't worry little brother." Ashley said as she sat next to him. "We'll find a specialist to help you learn to control your ability. Maybe even figure out the mystery of your Mr. Hyde consciousness that rarely pops out."
"I'll be damned if we let you rot in a jail cell in the middle of nowhere."
Christian turned to the side to see Jason lying in the hospital bed next to him. His face is covered with bandaids. "Jason."
"I'm fine." Jason assured him. "And I'm afraid you're stuck with me."
Christian was on the verge of tears. "I wouldn't have it any other way."
Christian's family smiled when knocking on the door interrupted them. "How are you holding up?" A woman in her forties dressed in a white lab coat asked Jason.
"You don't need to check up on me every ten minutes." Jason whined at her.
"Watch your tone, young man. As a doctor. But more importantly as your mother, it is my job to check in with you. Especially after what just happened." She spotted Christian. "I see your mate is wide awake."
"Hi Mrs. Williams." Christian greeted her sheepishly. "Sorry I got Jason involved."
"Pish posh." She spoke. "He will always stick his nose in other people's business. Especially yours." Christian flushed with her words. Jason's mom giggled before checking her wrist watch. "I better go check on some patients. I'll see you in a bit." With a smile she left.
"I'm going to time her." Jason stated. "Just to make a point."
"So." Everyone stared at Christian. "What happens now?"
"Now that Graham Clifton has been taken care of." Sarah started. "You don't need to go to court, so we'll have you out in a few days and then you can resume with your life."
Christian's eyes widened. "Wait. Did I deal with him?"
"Mr. Hyde did." Jacob said with his arms crossed. "He was reduced to a red smear."
"Red smear?"
"How do you think we learned you could do blood magic?"
Christian looked down sadly.
"Don't you dare feel bad about what happened." Jason threatened. "He was a heartless killer. In my opinion, you did society a favor."
"But still. I took a life." Christian mumbled sadly.
Sarah pulled him into a side hug. "Try not to dwell on it too much. Just get some rest and then we'll decide on what you should do about work."
"Awe man." Christian realized. "I gotta look for another job."
"Actually." Jessie spoke. "Your manager called to check up on you, and mentioned that after your recovery if you want to go back to working for him the owner found another location to open the coffee shop."
"Really?" Christian perked before glancing at Jason.
"It's up to you." Jason told him. "I'll support whatever decision you make as long as we're together again."
"Thank you." Christian muttered before looking back at Jessie. "Did he mention when and where the coffee shop is going to be?"
