“She's a pretty little thing.”

“Piss off, it's my turn.”

A hand grabbed her throat, making her jolt and see a man, a dark hair with dark eyes, he slapped her hard before even more pain began

Merina forced herself awake, snapping her eyes open. She was drenched in sweat that even the pillow was wet, Merina was panting, small panicked breaths. Merina looked over at the Clock that read 2:30am, it was far too early for anyone to be awake.

Merina huffed as she slid her shoes on, before rushing downstairs and onto the porch, she was still breathing heavily but the cool air seemed to help.

She heard the door open, she looked over to see Maggie standing there. Her eyes scanned the girl, seeing her shaken up state completely broken Maggie's heart. Merina was completely pale, her eyes panicked and she was covered in sweat. She could see her hands trembling.

Maggie stepped out onto the porch and took a few steps closer to the girl, Maggie wrapped her arm around Marina's waist making the girl flinch but didn't stop bringing her closer. “S-sorry, did I wake you?” Merina asked softly, trembling slightly.

“Don't worry about that, Are you okay? What happened?” Maggie said as she looked at Merina with soft green eyes that made Merina feel vulnerable.

“Just a nightmare.” Merina mumbled as she narrowed her eyes down to the ground, she was slowly cooling down due to the cool breeze of the night air.

“Want to talk about it?” Maggie asked with a soft tone, but got her answer when the girl turned her head away. “That's alright, you don't have to talk about it if you don't want too.” Maggie reassured as she gently placed her hand under Marina's chin and gently made her look at her.

Marina's eyes flickered to Maggie's green ones, the two girls watched each other in a peaceful silence. Merina seemed to be breathing better, but she didn't know if it was because she was with Maggie or the cool breeze, either way Merina was thankful for it.

Maggie was stroking her hair, calming the girl down further and it seemed to help her. “Come on, let's get back into bed, I'm sure work needs to be done tomorrow.” Maggie said as she took the girl's hand and walked back inside, pulling the girl along with her.

Merina followed the girl but she knew she wouldn't be able to fall back asleep, each time she had a nightmare -which is more times in the week she cared to admit the girl can barely go back to sleep, which means she's tired all the time. She got used to it.

Though, she didn't say anything to Maggie, she didn't want Maggie to know she goes through this mostly every night so she kept quiet and let the girl pull her away.

When Merina looked up, she noticed Maggie didn't take her to the room she had been staying in, but a different one, her eyesbrows knitted in confusion.

“It's okay, you can sleep in here with me,” Maggie said as she got into bed, Merina sighed before carefully sleeping into bed with Maggie. She stayed on her side, closest to the edge to make Maggie more comfortable, but Maggie wasn't having it, she wrapped her arms around the smaller girl and pulled her closer.

The two laid there in silence, staring at each other. Maggie's eyes flickered around the girl's face with a gentle look, so gentle it made her wonder if anything else would make the girl break, her hand cupping the side of Marina's face.

Marina's eyes closed, this is the first time she felt comforted by someone other than Glenn. Especially since the world ended, she feels comforted by Maggie Greene, but it's different.

“These happen a lot, don't they?” Maggie said in a whisper, Merina opened her eyes and looked at the girl, a single nod was the only response given but it was enough. “Try to sleep, I'm here and if you ever want to talk about them, I'm here.”

Merina sent Maggie a small smile before snuggling in closer, closing her eyes and leaning into the warm embrace of Maggie. Within minutes, she was alseep.

Maggie stayed awake, her eyes scanning over Medina's features. She admired each tiny feature, Merina looked peaceful, Merina never looked peaceful unless she was with Glenn, it was a comforting sight to see for Maggie.

Maggie admired Marina's smooth skin and porcelain-like face as Merina slept. Maggie wondered why Merina never truly let anyone see who she truly was, why she rarely looked at anyone in the eye, and if she did it wasn't very long.

It was like Merina was afraid too, afraid to look at someone in the eye then one day, look back and them not being there anymore. It didn't make sense to her, but knew Merina wouldn't tell her, not yet anyway.

Maggie relaxed into bed, still holding the lightly younger girl as she slowly began to shut her eyes, allowing darkness take over.
