It's been a week since they brought Randall to the farm, Merina tried to cope with it but knowing he's around, or when someone mentions him in a conversation made her have an anxiety rise. She was good at keeping it at bay, but she fails sometimes and has a panic attack. Thankfully Glenn is always there, but each and every night, that's the worst of it all, panic attacks and nightmares.
Maggie was still mad at her, not talking to her and avoiding her so Merina has been sleeping with Glenn in his tent, which made the panic attacks and nightmares worse as she doesn't want to wake her brother, she often leaves the tent, letting it pass over before passing out. Sometimes she manages to slip out without waking Glenn up, other times Glenn wakes up and goes with her or makes her stay to help deal with it.
She misses sleeping next to Maggie, she loves Glenn but Glenn doesn't know what to do when Merina has a panic attack, but talks to her after her nightmares. Glenn is her brother and best friend, he gives her comfort. Maggie on the other hand, gives her a strange feeling in her chest and also gives her comfort.
Merina looked and felt tired all the time, the nightmares and panic attacks have gotten bad. Everyone could tell she hadn't gotten enough sleep, and some were concerned for her but chose not to say anything, mostly because they knew Merina doesn't trust a lot, doesn't even fully trust Rick.
So there she was, sitting on the porch steps watching as Shane and Rick were about to depart with Randall. Chills ran down her spine as she saw the boy, making her bolt up and rush off. She walked to hers and Glenn's tent, she unzipped the flap and went inside.
She laid down on her cot, bringing her knees up to her chest and let out a deep sigh. She rubbed her eyes, laying back on the cot and closing her eyes, hoping she'll drift off to sleep.
Maggie's POV
Maggie was in the kitchen with Lori, making Beth some lunch since she was still on bedrest due to her shock, slowly recovering. Her eyes flickered to the older women who was cutting up some vegetables.
"Merina, she's been doing okay right?" Maggie asked softly, glancing down at her hands as she continued to make a sandwich.
Lori looked over at the girl, crossing her arms over her chest and leaned against the counter. "I can't be sure, though we've been around each other since the beginning she doesn't really talk to me, just Glenn." Lori informed, letting out a sigh. "You two not doing alright?"
"I thought she cared for me like I cared for her, but then she says she won't ever date me so maybe I just assumed that she had the sam-" Maggie tried to say but Lori stopped her, "Honey, Merina is often a nervous wreck, she needs way more time than most people. She's just like Glenn, says things when he's nervous or caught off guard."
Maggie was quiet for a moment, taking in a Lori's words. She knew her words were true but Merina's words still hurt. "I'll tell you something, Merina hasn't ever gotten close to someone the way she did with you. She's never clicked to anyone the way she did with you. She cares for people, the group, yes but trust, it still needs to be earned." Lori said as she finished up the lunch tray for Beth. "That's how she is, she has her reason, maybe it was because of what that group did to her or she was like this way before the world ended."
"I just thought maybe I pushed her, thinking she had the same feelings for me. She told me she loved me but the next day told me, in front of Rick and Glenn, she wouldn't date me." Maggie said with a sigh, cutting the crust off the bread.
"Merina must be scared of what she's feeling, she probably never felt anything like she does for you before." Lori said as she slid a piece of cucumber in her mouth, drying her hands off with a towel. "The whole group could tell she feels something for you Maggie, and some of them don't even know her."
Maggie sighed, fighting the urge to smile as she played with her hands. She took a deep breathe in, "Let me just get this to Beth." Maggie said as she was about to pick up the tray.
"You go on, I got it." Lori said as she moved across the counter, Maggie nodded and gave the woman a smile as a thanks before heading out of the house.
She stepped out onto the porch with a sigh, her eyes flickered around the maze of tents to see if she could find the girl on her mind but didn't see her. She started making her way to the small campsite, her eyes flickering around still looking.
She saw Merina, coming out of her tent, rubbing her tired eyes. She started walking in that direction, letting out a sigh. "Merina?" Maggie called out, making the girl jump and look over at the girl.
Merina froze seeing the girl, for an entire week, the two barely even shared a glance. She knew she hurt Maggie's feelings with her comment about not ever dating her, she didn't mean to hurt Maggie's feelings. She didn't even want to say it, she knows she loves the girl in front of her and it scared her.
Merina's eyes flickered to Maggie before looking away, the pair stood in each other's presence in silence. Maggie opened her mouth to say something but closed it again, she let out a huff before taking a step closer, she opened her mouth again.
"Maggie!" A voice said from behind the green eyed girl, Maggie spun around to see Andrea coming straight at her. "Maggie, come quick. Lori said there's something wrong with Beth."
