Merina was at gunpoint, in the middle of the swamp, watching the two men bicker back and forth over the guns. “Am I gonna have to shoot you?” Dale said as he pointed the rifle at Shane. “Do I have to kill you? Is that what it's gonna take?”
Shane chuckled as if he found the older man to be a clown, a stupid joke. “Yeah, that's what it's gonna take.” Merina felt Shane pull her closer, slightly in front of him to easily use her as a body shield if Dale took a shot. “but you'll shoot her first.”
“This is where you belong, Shane.” Dale said as he shot the male a glare, slowly lowering the gun but Shane kept his right at Marina's head.
“How's that, Dale?” Shane said dryly, glancing at Merina before his eyes flickered back to the older man.
“This world, what it is now, this is where you belong.” Dale said, his glare still fixed on Shane. The bag of guns still on his shoulder. “and I may not have what it takes to last for long, but that's okay." Dale continued as he moved the bag of guns off his shoulder. “cause atleast I could say, when the world goes to shit, I didn't let it take me down with it.” Dale finished as he dropped the bag onto the ground.
“fair enough.” Shane said as he slightly lowered the gun from Merina, moving towards the bag but Merina was quick to elbow Shane in the face, making him fall back.
Merina started to race to the bag and the male but Shane had tripped Merina, giving the back of her knee causing her to faceplant onto the ground. He jumped up, grabbed her by her shoulder and punched the girl hard in the face, the girl tried to move on but another punch came.
Then another.
And then another.
She felt a strong kick at her stomach, she groaned, holding her ribs. “Shane, stop! Just take the guns!” Dale yelled, his eyes fixed onto the girl who laid on the ground bruised and bloody.
Shane looked at the man before his eyes flickered back down to the girl, blood coming from his nose. He picked up the bag of guns and his pistol he dropped once Merina attacked him and walked off, back in the direction of camp.
Merina winced as she flipped herself onto her back, the girl had blood and swelling on her face that was already bruising. “Merina!” Dale yelled as he rushed over to the girl. “can you walk?” his eyes was filled with shock and concern.
“imma have too.” Merina mumbled before forcing herself onto her feet, groaning and wincing as she did so. She quickly went after Shane, she was on his trail, Dale on hers to make sure she didn't fall or pass out.
“Merina, slow down!” Dale spoke, trying his best to keep up with the girl who didn't make it easy. “You'll hurt yourself more.”
Merina didn't respond, nor did she listen to the man. She continued on, each time she moved her ribs screamed at her. She could feel the blood rolling down her face, she couldn't open her left eye but even then, she pressed on.
As she got close enough, she saw Shane passing out the guns to the group. She could hear the faint arguing from where she was and slowly getting closer. She could see Maggie, looking around for her.
Merina stumbled into view, limping, bruised, and bloody. “Oh my God, Merina!” Lori exclaimed in shock causing everyone to look at her. “What happened to you?”
The girl didn't even have a chance to say anything, “Oh, shit.” Tdog said as he stared towards the barn, they all directed eyes to where he was looking, which Merina was thankful for.
In the distance, Rick, Hershal and Jimmy came out of the woods with two walkers on a stick. Hershal had one and so did Rick, the whole group started running over, Shane taking the lead as the anger was still on his face.
“Shane!”
Merina looked up to see Glenn still standing there, concern in his eyes. She shook her head, “Go Glenn, I'll be okay, they need you. Come find me after, yeah?” Merina reassured as she coughed and held her ribs.
Glenn nodded, though he hesitated to take over the group in a sprint. Merina groaned, as she tried to move again, she noticed a gun on the ground, with another groan and a huff she bent down to pick it up before following after the group, she couldn't be fast like them, but surely made it over, even if her body disagreed with her.
“These things aren't sick, they're not people.” Merina heard Shane yell as she finally made it over to them. “They're dead, ain't gonna feel nothing for them cause all they do, they kill!”
Shane continued on, Merina was in far too much pain to listen to his rage. Lately that's all he did anymore, other than causing more problems for the people doing him. Her mind raced, her body ached and her ears rung but she snapped out of her thoughts by the sound of gunshots.
Shane had shot the walker Hershal was holding, different times. The heart, the lungs, trying to prove to hershal they just aren't people anymore.
They aren't people anymore...
Merina stumbled closer, going down to her knees, watching the scene. Watching Shane shoot the walker Hershal had on the stick, she could see the look on his face and it made her blood run cold.
There's no hope left, not here, not in fort Benning. Nowhere.
Soon all she could hear was yelling, but it was faint to her, her body was filled with pain, she could feel the uncomfortable feeling in her bones. Her eyes flickered up again, seeing everyone yelling, begging Shane not to do it as Shane was already trying to get the lock off the barn.
“No, Shane, don't do this, brother!”
“Rick!”
“Don't do it.”
“Please!”
