What not to wear

Taylor stood in front of her closet, arms crossed as she surveyed the array of outfits she'd pulled out. The ottoman in the center of the room was piled high with discarded options, designer felt too trendy, a dress seemed overly formal, and a handful of tops that just didn't feel right or even fit.

Her fingers brushed over a soft cardigan, then moved to a neatly folded pair of jeans. "What do you even wear to meet your husband's 10-year-old son for the first time?" she muttered under her breath. The question hung in the air, heavier than it had any right to be.

She rested a hand on her baby bump, feeling the faint flutters beneath her palm. "You got this Taylor," she whispered, as much to herself as to the life inside her. "This isn't about me. Just be yourself." But it was hard to convince herself of that when everything felt so high-stakes. Cassie, her fiancé Justin, and Jayden would be arriving within the hour, and while it was just a casual lunch at home, the gravity of the moment weighed on her. This wasn't just about meeting Jayden, it was start of all of them figuring out what their lives would look like now.

Taylor sighed, sitting down on the edge of the bed. Her thoughts drifted back to a few days earlier at Jason and Kylie's house, when everything had turned upside down with the arrival of the email.

--------

The Kelce kitchen had been filled with its usual chaotic energy that evening. Jason was tossing snacks to his daughters, Kylie was teasing him about getting weak in his retirement and Taylor was laughing at one of Travis's exaggerated impressions of Ed's words of widsom.

Then Travis's phone buzzed.

The room didn't go silent immediately, but Travis's reaction caught Taylor's attention. His shoulders tensed, and his expression turned serious as he stared at the screen.

"It's the results" he said quietly.

That was enough to bring the chatter to a halt. Jason, mid-bite of a cookie, froze. Kylie set her glass down, her brows furrowing.

Taylor's hand instinctively reached for Travis's, her voice steady but soft. "Do you want to read it now?"

Travis hesitated, his thumb hovering over the notification. Then he nodded. "Yeah. Let's just get it over with." He tapped the email open, the words filling the screen as his eyes scanned them. His jaw tightened, and he took a deep breath before tilting the phone so Taylor could see.

Her gaze landed on the unmistakable conclusion: 99.9% probability of paternity.

For a moment, nobody spoke.

Kylie broke the silence first. "You've got to be fucking kidding me," she said, her tone sharp. "This... this is insane."

Jason frowned, shooting her a look. "Ky, not now."

"No, Jase, this is exactly the time!" she snapped, her arms crossing defensively. "She waits ten years to tell him, and now this? What is she going to drag us on Maury or the Dr Phil show?"

"Kylie," Taylor interjected gently, her voice firm. "Let's... take a breath. This is a lot for everyone."

Kylie sighed biting her tongue for a moment holding back whatever she was about to say next.

Jason leaned on the counter, his gaze steady on Travis. "You okay, bro?"

Travis set the phone down, rubbing his face with both hands. "I don't know," he admitted, his voice heavy. "I mean... I kinda already knew, didn't I? But seeing it... it's real now."

"It's real," Jason echoed, his tone softer now.

Kylie, however, wasn't done. "This can't just be some innocent timing, Jason. You don't drop this on someone, on us, unless you're trying to milk it for something."
