The air was heavy with an oppressive darkness as you, Draco, Severus, the twins Esmond and Iris, and your loyal house elf Poppy Apparated onto the grounds of Hogwarts.
Despite it being late morning, the sky was shrouded in thick, ominous clouds that blocked out the sun, casting the entire landscape in a twilight gloom.
The familiar spires and turrets of the castle loomed ahead, their shadows long and menacing, as if the very walls of the ancient school had absorbed the malevolence of the times.
A chill wind whipped across the grounds, tugging at your robes as you and the others stood in a small circle, the oppressive silence around you broken only by the distant caw of a crow. The castle seemed to stare back at you, its windows like dark, watchful eyes, taking in everything without revealing anything in return.
You adjusted your grip on Iris, who clung to you with wide, curious eyes, her small hand tangled in the fabric of your cloak. Esmond was nestled against your chest, his tiny fingers clutching at the folds of your robes as he peered out with a mix of sleepiness and confusion at the unfamiliar surroundings. Poppy stood by your side, her large eyes filled with a quiet determination, holding a suitcase in each hand with ease despite her small stature.
Severus was already in motion, his dark silhouette cutting a sharp figure against the bleak landscape as he moved toward the castle, his black robes billowing behind him like the wings of a bat. He was a man on a mission, his steps purposeful and swift, each one carrying him closer to his duty: ensuring that the school was secure from any threats, whether from within or without.
Draco lingered for a moment longer, his expression tense, as he glanced between you and the castle. He looked older somehow, the strain of the past few months etched into the lines of his face.
The weight of his family's legacy and the dark path they had been forced down had aged him beyond his years. With a curt nod, he turned and followed Severus, his footsteps echoing faintly in the eerie stillness as he too disappeared into the shadowed halls of Hogwarts.
You and Poppy began to move toward the castle, the soft crunch of gravel underfoot the only sound as you walked. The path leading to the entrance seemed longer than you remembered, each step taking you deeper into the encroaching darkness that clung to the very stones of the school.
"Come, Poppy," you said softly, your voice low and steady, trying to project a calm you didn't feel. "We have much to do."
"Yes, Mistress," Poppy replied, her voice tinged with the same determination you felt, though you could see the unease in her large, expressive eyes as she glanced at the castle.
You tightened your hold on the twins as you reached the entrance, the massive wooden doors creaking open with an almost reluctant groan.
The Great Hall lay beyond, its once vibrant and welcoming atmosphere now shadowed by the dark clouds that had settled over the school.
