In that infinite dark space, she lived in solitude.
The Goddess of Time was born out of a golden speck of sand, living to see the birth of the universe, planets, flora, and fauna, and an interesting civilization of Earthlings she had the most fun observing. Other creatures had their own riveting aspects of living, but she enjoyed laughing at how these humans repeatedly pushed themselves into ruins, mostly never learning from their mistakes.
And even though they were headed toward their planet's destruction, there were still a handful of humans who worked to make the Earth a better place, despite the overwhelming greed, suffocating pollution, and unexplainable war crimes. People were so money and power-driven that it was laughable as all of them died in the end, none of them bringing that money or power to the afterlife.
People of lower status were suffering while the higher-ups gloated, filling their pockets and guts while others died of hunger in miserable poverty.
However, it wasn't her responsibility to help any of them. All she could do was sit and watch, her job being to follow and make sure that every planet moved at the right speed, which would determine its time.
On Earth, the official measurement for time was "second," and the Goddess currently counted seconds until the next time traveler would appear.
She was always fascinated by those humans and how they managed to hold such powers that could only be associated with her. But that was her doing - out of boredom from watching the scenarios repeat themselves through history and had already learned their languages, the Goddess bestowed the power of time on the small selection of humans whom she found worthy of such responsibility.
However, their reasons amazed her - while some used the powers for their benefit, others helped their friends, family, and communities. But humans, being skeptical creatures, didn't believe those with abilities that science couldn't explain, calling them "freaks" and disregarding their preaching.
"Chronosaurus!" The Goddess called for her loyal pet, a large creature she had made and who carried an hourglass between its teeth, the particles counting the next traveler's arrival.
The large animal's growl echoed through space as it swam toward the woman in golden robes, looming over the dune where she sat. The large creature dropped the hourglass into her palm. The Goddess smiled at the ruthless-looking animal, looking down at the streak of sand and the specks pouring through the narrow glass passage.
"Anytime now..." She smiled and the animal growled, circulating above her.
If it was to be associated with any Earth animal, Chronosaurus would resemble a crocodile-shark mix with its strong jaw, sharp teeth, long tail, and fins that helped it swim through time and space, those features symbolizing the relentless nature of time and how it consumed everything in its path.
The Goddess moved her gaze from the pouring sand as a sizzling sound, followed by a gust of wind, came as the last particle fell through the passage onto the small golden pile. She looked to her left where a shiny golden vortex was forming, and stood up from the dune, ready to meet her guest - a new traveler she recently picked - a rare, decent male whom she thought would make a difference on that planet polluted with so many disgusting occurrences and dark negativity.
