Growing up without advanced technology, in the era where only the privileged people had access to the internet, was so blissful and easy. It made children spend all of their free time outside - playing with their friends, thinking of new games and activities, running, climbing, cycling, falling, and getting light injuries were all part of this innocent childhood. Every weekend and every break from school was spent outside in play and laughter, be it summer or winter.
However, two children particularly loved spring. It was time when nature began to wake up after the long, cold, and dull winter - the time when spending time moments grew and everything around them bloomed... along with their smiles and hearts.
They were only 7 years old, just started school, but were still playful, happy, and smiley. They were best friends, they've known each other since birth, since their early consciousness, and did everything together. They would do sleepovers, have meals at each other's house, spend hours outside until their mothers screamed their lungs out, calling them to return home, etc.
Despite him being a boy and she being a girl, these children shared everything - from clothes to a snack or a toy. And, right now, they shared a laugh as he mimicked their old teacher putting two plucked daisies to his ears - the old teacher who loved wearing floral dresses and jewelry.
The flower field echoed with their laughter. The tall grass rustled, carried by the warm breeze and running footsteps. The boy threw his backpack and it landed somewhere in the tall grass. He climbed the old oak tree and hung upside down from the lowest branch. The girl giggled at his antics, raising the skirt of her cute dress to run through the grass. She came to the boy and ruffled his hair, both of them breaking into giggles. He raised his body back up and hung from his arms this time, letting go and falling into the soft grass in the next moment.
The girl held a handful of plucked flower heads from various wildflowers she gathered and with a cheeky grin threw them, the small flowers raining on the sitting boy, many of them landing on his head and shoulders.
She giggled but he stood up and chased after her, her screams echoing through the vast field, muting his "threats". When he finally caught her, she let out a louder scream as they both fell on the grass, the screams trailing into giggles as he started tickling her. When she begged him to stop, he listened, rolling down next to her.
Catching their breaths, they stared at the blue sky sprinkled with fluffy clouds that seemed to move very slowly.
Her smile faded first as different, adult-like thoughts came to her mind - she began thinking about the future, about growing up, and some unease wrapped around her heart.
The girl turned her head, looking at the smiling brunette boy, admiring his curls and the dimple on his soft cheek.
"Chan..." she called, her voice quiet, and he turned his head, meeting her worried gaze.
"Hm?" he replied, wondering what was on her mind.
A grip of her joined hands resting on her belly tightened. "Will we stay together... forever?"
