Bang Chan has been working non-stop: studio, dance practice, studio, song recordings, a bit of sleep, music shows, practice, interviews, and so on. Living on take-out and barely any sleep became a normal occurrence in his busy daily routine.

You haven't seen him in over a month so you appreciated every little text or short FaceTime call that you two shared in that time because he had concerts for their world tour, comeback preparations and promotions, interviews and talk shows, and then back again to songwriting, recording, and producing to do it all over again for the new album.

His birthday was nearing. You wanted to make him a party but you didn't want to push your idea into his busy schedule so you kept silent. The new comeback was scheduled for late October and, of course, he and the guys were busy with the final touches on the album as well as shootings for the music videos.

And just like for his physical, you were also worried for his mental health - with that much work, and no matter how much he told you that he was doing fine, you could see tiredness in his eyes whenever you two had a video call. So, you always made sure to send him daily positive messages of affirmation, sometimes several times a day, and would smile every time he'd reply to them with a heart emoji, or with a "thank you, I needed this", followed with a smiley face or a cute sticker.

However, as it was the last quarter of the year, the situation at your job was hectic as well - managers and executives expected reports, there was more and more work getting piled up on your desk, and all you wanted was to get out of the building, sometimes wishing to quit your boring 9-5 office job and just lock yourself away from the world. But you couldn't do that because you needed money - rent, food, bills, ... all of that needed money for you to live "normally". As well as Chan's birthday gift.

Having filled some papers, you glance at the desk calendar to see October 3rd marked with cute hearts and a small doodle of a birthday cake. You push a small crooked smile and, suddenly, your determination grows stronger so you finish up the work you have and call it a day.

Two more days.

On your way home, you stop by the bank's ATM, withdrawing some money for the stuff you need to buy. And, knowing that Bang Chan doesn't really love cakes, you decided to "play it safe", pulling up a recipe for a simple dessert that will "hit home".

You bought the ingredients and packed Chan's present on October 1st but spent hours in the kitchen on the 2nd, going over the recipe a thousand times in order not to screw it up.

The cake sponge was in the oven when your phone pinged a reminder. Glancing at the wall clock, you saw that it was already midnight. You pushed a small smile despite being tired and reached to your phone to be one of the first people who will send him a "happy birthday" message. Of course, you didn't expect Chan to reply to your message right away so his "thank you" message (with lots of hearts) came around 3 AM, just when you were spreading the cake filling on the cooled and carefully cut cake sponge. You smiled at the notification bubble and continued your work, finishing the decoration and cleaning the mess in the kitchen around 4:30 AM. Putting the cake in the fridge, you head to bed to get some sleep before waking up at 8 AM and going to work to do your boring job all over again.
