December... jolly and festive, a time of the year loved and anticipated by many... but not you...
You hate December, especially the 24th - Christmas Eve - because your boyfriend is never with you. Every year... the same type of shit.
At first, you thought it was cute, and supported him in this seasonal job of his but now, after years of dating, you hate it!
While other couples go to fancy dinners, kiss under the mistletoe, and exchange presents, you're stuck in your shared apartment, watching "Home Alone" for the 100th time, wrapped in a fuzzy red blanket with cute reindeer and snowflakes pattern that he got you years ago, drinking your 5th cup of hot cocoa.
He's always already out of the apartment in the early morning hours and won't come back until late in the night. His current "being late" record is when he came home at 4 AM, on the 25th. It was a mistake to wait for him so, learning from that, you turn off the TV when the clock strikes midnight, and go to sleep, feeling heartbroken yet again, with a dash of anger mixed in it.
Bang Chan is super sweet and caring for a whole year long, it's just that you go mad on the 24th of December when he and his friends have to work. And you hate that you got so pulled into this "Christmas feeling" shit that the media serves. You can't deny it - you love romantic stuff but it's always Christmas, soft matching pajamas, luxury dinners, hot cocoa by the fire, etc. that's being pushed a little bit too much, right in your faces. And yeah, it's because of this mainstream crap that's being served right after Halloween, for two whole months, that you feel jealous when your friends talk about how they spent their "romantic Christmas Eve dinner" with their boyfriends. So, when they ask you what Chan and you did on the 24th, you always make up a lie, telling them that you too had a romantic dinner with your boyfriend in your apartment.
What can you possibly say? The truth? That he's working as Santa's helper along with 7 of his friends??? No one would ever believe you - they'd all laugh and call you crazy.
But that was the truth...
You didn't believe in it yourself either. When he first told you, you laughed like a crazy person, but Chan's serious face wiped the smile off of your face.
"Are you serious?" you asked him that year and he nodded.
He even pulled you outside, in the snow and cold, to show you this crazy-looking pink truck with graffiti and Christmas lights all over it, packed with presents in the back. And when 7 other young men came out of the truck, all dressed in red, your jaw dropped.
You knew Chan's friends from before - they all worked normal jobs and were awesome to hang out with - but you didn't expect them all to be in this mess together...
They explained the situation: apparently, Santa Claus lost his voice and went to the hospital and the eight of them were his substitutes, in charge of delivering presents and joy to the children. And you thought it was cute, you really did.
You thought they went and visited hospitals, orphanages, malls, and other places, delivering presents to the kids. But, oh boy were you wrong. The "magic" part flew right over your head. They were really delivering presents to children all around the world, just like the "real" Santa Claus did. And all that in a pink truck.
Thank God they didn't have to ride a sleigh pulled by reindeer.
It took you two full years to honestly understand and grasp the situation... and ultimately accept it. But now, five years into dating Bang Chan, you hate it.
Why is Santa sick EVERY year? On one day he should be in top form, he falls ill. Maybe his days are coming to an end? No! If Santa dies, then you will for sure lose a boyfriend - he'll be busy for the whole year long!
