Dinner was delicious, a surprise prepared by none other than Jeongguk himself. Y/N couldn't remember the last time someone had cooked for her like this—if ever. The food was warm and comforting, much like the man who sat across from her, sneaking glances between bites, as if trying to gauge her reaction to each dish.
"Thank you for dinner, Jeongguk. It was... perfect," she said, offering him a soft smile.
Jeongguk rubbed the back of his neck, a faint blush rising to his cheeks. "I'm glad you liked it."
After the meal, Jeongguk insisted that she rest, but Y/N was having none of it. "I can't let you clean up alone," she protested, standing to collect the dishes.
Jeongguk sighed, watching her stubbornness with a mixture of exasperation and fondness. "You really should rest. You're still recovering."
Y/N smiled playfully. "Maybe so, but I'm not going to let you clean up after making such a wonderful dinner. Besides, two hands are better than one."
With a small laugh, Jeongguk relented, and together they tidied the kitchen, moving in sync as though they'd done this a thousand times before. It felt... right. It felt new. When they finished, Jeongguk wiped his hands on a dishcloth and gave her a curious look as she dried the last plate.
"You're really stubborn, you know that?"
She grinned at him. "I've been told."
The night felt warm in more ways than one, and when they headed upstairs to the master bedroom, Y/N couldn't help but notice how different it felt now. This space that had once seemed so distant, so foreign, was beginning to feel like home.
Jeongguk closed the door softly behind them, and Y/N sighed, glancing around the room. "I didn't bring my toiletries up here yet," she murmured, feeling a bit sheepish.
Jeongguk's lips curled into a gentle smile. "I already brought them. This afternoon," he admitted.
She blinked in surprise. "You did?"
Nodding, Jeongguk continued, "I didn't move your other things yet, though. I figured we could do that once you're feeling a hundred percent well." His expression softened as he spoke, and for a moment, Y/N saw the man she had fallen in love with—the one who had been so kind to her before their marriage.
A wave of emotion hit her, and before she could stop herself, she took a small step closer to him, her eyes searching his face. "Jeongguk..." she began, her voice a whisper. "Can I hug you?"
Jeongguk raised an eyebrow, amusement flickering in his eyes. "Do you usually ask before hugging your husband?"
Her cheeks flushed, and she lowered her gaze, suddenly feeling very shy. Before she could respond, she felt his warm hands gently pulling her closer. He wrapped his arms around her, holding her tightly, and Y/N immediately sank into his embrace, her heart pounding.
"I love you," she thought, her heart swelling with the confession she was too afraid to speak aloud. She had loved him since the moment they started dating. His kindness, his attention, the way he had cared for her before marriage—those things had made her fall so deeply, so helplessly in love with him. And even after everything, even after the hurt he had caused, her love for him hadn't faded. If anything, it had only grown stronger.
She rested her head against his chest, a smile tugging at her lips. "Thank you, Jeongguk," she whispered softly. "For letting me stay like this."
Jeongguk tensed for a moment before shushing her. "Don't thank me," he murmured, pulling her even closer. "You never need to thank me for this."
