"Hi, baby," Mabel says as she walks into my room

"Hi, baby," Mabel says as she walks into my room. I ignore her.

"Why haven't you been picking up my calls? I've been calling you forever," she continues, acting like nothing's wrong.

"Leave," I say, not even looking at her.

"Why would you say that?"

"Mabel, I said leave."

"Tell me which of the three dresses I bought with your card should I wear tonight?" she asks in that high-pitched voice of hers, making my headache worse.

"We're not going," I scoff.

She gasps. "Why not? I'm your plus one, so you have to go."

"Is that all you care about, Mabel? Do you even realize what you did back there?"

"What are you talking about?" she asks, completely unbothered.

"Were you in your right mind? Who says that to anyone, let alone a friend? Celeste is like the sister I never had, and because of you, she won't talk to me. I've called her more than fifteen times, and she won't answer. Neither will Felix. It's been three days!" My voice rises in frustration.

Her smile falters as she realizes I'm actually angry. "I... I didn't mean it like that, you know? It was just supposed to be a tip for her. I was trying to help. I thought she'd take it as a joke." She pauses, fidgeting with her purse strap.
"You thought humiliating my friends was fun? Humiliating me?"

Her eyes widen as she steps closer, reaching out with trembling hands. "No, that wasn't my intention! I'm sorry. I just... I didn't think."
I take a deep breath, trying to calm down. Tears well up in her eyes, and she quickly wipes them away, though they keep falling. "I'm sorry," she repeats. "I never meant to hurt anyone. I didn't want to lose you or be left out."

She starts sobbing, her hands shaking as she covers her face. "Please, don't hate me. I was stupid, okay? I was stupid, and now I'm paying for it. Please don't leave me. I need you."
I stare at her, my anger slowly turning into frustration. I know I should comfort her, but I just don't feel like it.

"It doesn't matter now. You should go back. I've got a terrible headache, maybe a fever coming on."

"Ew, stay away. I don't want to catch a fever, especially since we have the ball tonight. I need to look my best." She steps back, her tears disappearing.

"I already told you, Mabel, we're not going."
She immediately starts crying again. "I knew it. You're second-guessing."

"What do you mean?" I ask, confused.
"I know you still like Ivy. That's why you don't want to go tonight-because then it'll be official that we're together. You're hiding our relationship from the media, probably because I'm not famous enough." She sobs harder.
"What are you talking about, Mabel? I've never thought of you like that, and you know it. The rest is just rubbish."
