"good morning Alex " I say as I enter the living room .

"you seem happier now doesn't she Abuela? "

"ah , yes , Alex , I wonder what could be the reason now" she says with a smirk.

"or more like who could be the reason " he adds, raising an eyebrow.

"okay , both of you, cut it out, "I say, shaking my head.

They share a look, both of them giving me a goofy smile as I sit down at the table and Alex jumps right in front of me , Abuela sitting next to him . "So, what happened?" Alex asks, wiggling his eyebrows.

"I forgave him."

"ahhhhhhh" "yessssssssss" "how gorgeous " they both cheer .

"I said I forgave him , not married him " they're way too excited.

"That day isn't too far off. " Abuela teases .

"Oh, please. I'm the one who needs to meet him first; you'll need my permission," he says, trying to look serious.

I stand up, clearly horrified. "You're both insane!"

"You stabbed me in the hand over a stolen piece of candy. You don't understand mercy or forgiveness-unless it's for him," Alex jokes, winking at me.

"Should've aimed for your eye instead," I mutter, throwing a paper towel at him before heading upstairs.

"Hey, I heard that!" He yells as I walk in the garden

"You were meant to." I yell back .

"You forgave him?" Maddie asks as she bursts into my room without warning.

"Yes, and this isn't a movie, so no dramatic entrances, please, there are no applause " I say, holding a book in my hand.

"Why, though? You never forgive anyone."

Maddie stares at me, curious. I turn around with the book in my hand , looking at her .no one lets me read .

"yes I do "

"no , you don't "

"Fine, maybe I don't usually forgive people, but I did this time."

"Does he even know... you know, about your ed?" she trails off.

"Yeah. It just sort of came out when I was angry I didn't think it through."

"So why'd you forgive him?" I close my book, exhaling. She wiggles her eyebrows.

"I don't know... Maybe Alex is right." She smiles at the mention of his name.

"Alex is amazing, and ridiculously hot," she says, getting lost in thought before snapping back. "What was Alex right about, anyway?"
