Ever since this man came for a check up, he's been giving me a hard time by coming almost everyday to the clinic just to have a "chat" with me. At first, I was just trying to be polite about it and just agreed to meet him even for casual talks. But this has gone way too long and is honestly a waste of my time. Although he has been coming to the clinic every week for the past 2 months, I still don't know much about him as we rarely talk about each other's private lives. He talks as if we already knew each other for so long and just acts however he wants. Though I was clearly drained out with catching up with this man's pace, I still had to put up my professional smile and demeanor so as to not be criticized by anyone else around. I knew this had to stop though and that it would only do so if I put my foot down and just tell him straight on.
"So Mingyu, I don't recall you telling me what job you really do. Mind telling me?" I planned on slipping in an intro and eventually build up to the main topic. Although I did tell myself to just be frank with him, I just couldn't bring myself to do it.
"Hmm? Oh really? I work at a candy shop." he was drinking a frappe that was topped with loads of whipped cream and drizzled with lots of chocolate. He actually brought me a drink as well but bought me an iced americano instead as he thought dentists wouldn't want to drink such sweet things. Wait---did he say candy shop?
"A candy shop? Are you a part-timer there?" The topic suddenly piqued my interest that I had to put down the chart that I was reading and face him directly, waiting for his answer.
He paused for a moment, staring at the drink that was on his hand and eventually looked up to meet my eyes. "I own it actually."
"Really ? I never took you for a business man, good for you then. But about you visiting here could you---"
"Aren't you gonna ask more about what it's like to work there?"
I subconsciously tilted my head in confusion as I looked at his expectant face. He seemed like he knows something and is somewhat expecting that I know it too.
"Ok? How is it to work at a candy shop?" I took the bait nevertheless.
He cracked a smile and pulled his chair closer to my desk across from where I was sitting and leaned closer.
"I have a regular there that has been getting my attention." he took a sip from his drink while studying my reaction.
I couldn't care much really. I intended to tell him to get lost and now we are here talking about his possible love interest. Great.
"Hmmm is that so? This person must be very interesting then?" I did my best to look attentive and that I actually cared about the topic we were at.
"Yes, HE is very much so."
"A man? Was he that good looking?"
His smile started to grow bigger as we talked about this person. "You could say that."
I just lost my chance at telling him about his visits and just went along with whatever nonsense he was spewing at the moment.
"So what are you gonna do about this interest of yours? Do you want to be friends with him?"
He let out a chuckle and seemed to blush a little. The heck?
"If only it was that easy. Every time he comes to the shop, he looks like he doesn't want to be recognized by anyone. Always looking down on the floor and wearing a mask."
"Isn't that a bit suspicious then? Aren't you worried that he might do something?"
He stared at me again with those expectant eyes of his and let out a sigh. Whether it was a sigh of relief or disappointment, I'd never know.
"No, I don't believe he would do anything bad. He's a good guy."
"If you trust him that much, what's stopping you from approaching him then?"
"He seemed like he didn't want to be interrupted."
"All I'm getting from this is that you respect him enough to give him his personal space, but if you're so bothered about it at least try talking to him, we never know what he would do."
I realized that I was too caught up in his story and might have said too much.
"Then again my opinion doesn't really matter, this all depends on you."
I tried to keep my composure after being too engrossed in giving him advice and naturally pick up the chart that I coldly put down earlier to keep my hands busy.
"Actually your opinion does matter. Thank you for the advice."
He left after chatting for a few more minutes, I didn't pay much attention to what he said then, until he called me out at the shop that day....
