I finally said it.
His face wasn't disgusted, thank God. But he sure wasn't amused either.
"The fuck did you just say?"
I never imagined that the usually imperturbable Doctor Jeon would say such profanities. He's saying them so casually without even batting an eye. Is he normally like this?
"Want me to say it again? I said I li--"
"Okay stop there. Don't say it again. If this is your way of toying with me, it isn't really funny. I'd rather give you free services at the clinic."
"I'm not lying though. I was interested in the masked regular for months, and when I saw you for the first time at the clinic I was confused why I felt the same way for you as I did for our customer. Turns out it's because you two were actually the same person to begin with."
The look he was giving me was a mix of shock and embarrassment. I'm just glad he's actually listening and not running away.
"Whether you believe me or not right now, I was going to show you anyways how sincere my feelings are for you."
"I asked you what you wanted in exchange for your silence, why the hell are you saying these embarrassing things?"
I took a step closer and immediately he took a step back. He looked like a hamster being preyed upon by a beast. He wasn't really cowering in fear, but he wasn't standing straight in pride either.
"I'm asking you to date me."
Instantly his face flushed even redder than before.
"Are we clear now?"
We stood there standing close to each other for a few more seconds in silence. My eyes studied every movement on his face, while his eyes darted everywhere except to mine.
"So what's it gonna be? This is the only deal that I'm willing to accept for my silence."
He finally looked me in the eye.
"Could you perhaps back off a little? You're really making me uncomfortable here."
One of his hands was on my chest weakly pushing me back, stopping me from coming any closer than I already was. I took a step back and saw him clench his chest while taking a few deep breaths.
"Are you okay?"
"You should really stop that habit of yours where you invade other people's personal space. Some of us can't handle such things."
"Did I make you shy perhaps?"
"Very much so bastard, now stop with the cheesy ass lines and just stay there."
"Wait, you're really shy?"
"Who wouldn't be in that situation?"
"Doesn't that mean you have feelings for me too?" I was getting fired up at the possibility that maybe he would reciprocate these feelings of mine. I was nervous while I stood there waiting for his answer.
"It would be a lie if I said that I don't find you interesting, but don't get that mixed up with me having romantic feelings for you."
"There's still a chance then. As long as you don't hate me, I would take it as you allowing me to pursue you."
"Jeez stop it already. Do what you want, I'm all drained here. I just went through a range of emotions in a short amount of time. Can we please get out now? I still have an early patient tomorrow morning."
"You make it seem like I'm taking you hostage here. Well anyways I'm taking that as a yes for our deal then?"
He scoffed and proceeded to walk past me to get to the door. I followed him close behind watching his back maneuver his way to the cashier to pay for the chocolates.
I convinced him to stay with me a little longer and join me for a can of beer. I didn't want to waste any time and wanted to get to know him more now. He wasn't pleased by this at all but decided to come along with me to the convenience store anyways.
"Here." I handed him a beer and sat next to him at the bench that was right in front of the store facing the street.
"Thanks I guess. You clearly don't care that I'll be losing sleep because of this huh?"
"Sorry I just like you too much to let go of y---"
He quickly shoved his hand to cover my mouth and glared at me while mouthing for me to shut up. After frantically looking left and right, he placed his hand down and continued to scowl at me.
"What are you saying so loudly in a public place? Are you trying to kill me in embarrassment?"
He drank a sip of his beer while stealing glances at the people who were near the store. I found it somehow adorable how he nibbled on the end of the can while his eyes wandered elsewhere avoiding mine.
"You get embarrassed so easily, how did you manage all this time to maintain that level-headed image of yours?"
"I could blame one person for that."
At that moment I was just happy knowing that I engraved my life unto his deep enough to get to see this different version of him.
